Does Using ENGLISH Language Lessen The Filipino
Does Using ENGLISH Language Lessen The Filipino
Well, for me, no. The usage of English in literature does not undermine the "Philippines" of a specific
literary piece, given that the art can convey its meaning. To me, the idea that each work is viewed
differently, due to the context and experiences of an individual, is one of the best things about art;
not about the language used. One aspect the beauty in a piece is what its maker says. If a person
wishes to exemplify Filipino-ness and feels he or she can better express it in English then he or she
should do so by all means. Whatever fits and languages the artist feels comfortable in, he or she has
to use it to express the desired meaning in full and to produce it. I think Filipino-ness isn't just an
allusion to all the Philippine Literature, it's a link with our hardships as we consider where we reside
in fragments of our life, as the Filipinos. In the How and Why we, like the Philippines, interact with
who is, where is and what is wherever we are, the Filipino-ness in Filipino literature. Briefly, the
Philippine essence of Literature brings into doubt our Philippine heritage as it exists. The literature
encourages the quest of our Philippine heritage to take place constantly. The literature of the
Philippines reveals who we Filipinos believe we will be. Thus, as long as we imbibe the combination
of qualities of being a Filipino in heart and mind, the English language would not diminish the
Filipino-ness of Philippine Literature.
2. Do you believe that the young and emerging authors and writers of the Philippines lack
attention compared to foreign writers? (If yes, state scenarios. If no, unfold your thoughts about
it.)
My answer is yes. An unfortunate stereotyping of students is the dilemma, as they see Philippine
literature as cliche or baduy. They see in the novels, films, and teleseryes of Philippine media a
familiar, boring formula and are tired of it. Besides, in international plays, they needed more
innovation. Like others would claim, local literature will "transform to survive."
The lack of publicity was another explanation given. The hope is that the interest provided to
Philippine writers does not proliferate within the Philippines as famous bookstores such as Fully
Booked or National Book Store can mostly view international titles as soon as you go there.
Schoolwork asks students to play local plays, but they don't know much in school. It has been stated
that if a school does not require it and that none are willing to read it for fun, this is not what people
should learn though.
The explanation why students may not read local literature was sometimes quoted as words. They
find it hard to appreciate life in the Philippines because they scarcely understand. Problems with the
Philippines and challenges to connect in the Philippines seem to be a significant phenomenon
among contemporary young people with the usage of English as the principal means of
communication. Although Philippine writers do have publications in English, it's definitely the
language problem that has been put off.
3. Search for foreign or local authors, who do you think you can compare yourself with and why?
If there is one author, I could compare myself with, it is Joanne Kathleen Rowling, the author of
Harry Potter. I chose her because aside from I had read and watched her works, I find her very
dedicated to everything she would do. Her large impact reached me; an avid reader who found her
miraculous series through recommendation.
I began the series, and I was never the same again. I knew nothing of the author at the time, I simply
knew that my little 12-year-old self could not and would not be whole without the Harry Potter
series. Deeper and deeper I burrowed myself into the Harry Potter world until I felt slightly detached
from the rest of reality. How could this complete captivation of the world not change my life? J.K
Rowling inspired me to write with passion, something I’ve always attempted to do. The universe that
she had created was so diverse and spellbinding!
I found that Harry Potter could comfort me out of the depths of despair and teach me life lessons in
the most subtle and entertaining ways. J.K Rowling opened the eyes of many young readers,
including myself. She showed the world how momentous, well-chosen words can be. She has inspired
me a lot. I believe that J.K Rowling is the embodiment of hope; a lit candle in the darkness. She
proved what the power of determination can do, and at the same time, led me to understand the
magic of literature. J.K Rowling was a turning point for many; her books opened up a new world
where one can immerse themselves in worlds so unlike their own and discover the many mysteries
unique to it as one explores the delightful details around them.
Time seems to stop in its place and allow readers to delve into all there is to know about their
surroundings. I knew of this already, but I felt the keen beauty of it more deeply as I was exposed to
J.K Rowling’s decidedly ‘non-muggle world’. J.K Rowling is and always will be a woman of utter
tenacity that impacted my life. I firmly believe that she will go down in history as the author who
single-handedly dominated the world of literature with her pen-bearing hand.
With that, I can say that J.K. Rowling is an epitome of diminishing obstacles (not just based on her
works but also in her life generally). She is a woman full of strength and motivation to finish
something ravishing even though behind her were tons of obstacles. Like J.K., I am a woman who
never gives up. Instead, I always hold my wand and would say the spell Lumos (a spell to create a
beam of light at the tip of the wand, like a torch). Let there be light on everything even though there
are lots of dilemmas!
4. If you will be asked to write your first article, what would be your topic and why?
If I were to write an article, that would be all about inspiration and motivation to continue fighting
even though life and fate would give us hardships. Because as an individual, motivation is important
in human life and human development is a continuous process. There are many obstacles in front of
humans daily. Some of the obstacles are the creation of natural disasters and some of the obstacles
are created by uneducated society and less practical government policies and laws.
For example when farmer’s crops get ruined by flood and drought then it’s is the obstacle in their
life. Their efforts and hopes died. Now farmers need motivation in this situation to try again and
without self-motivation, they can’t able to start again. The second obstacle is when they are unable
to pay bank loans, get lower prices for crops in the market, etc. There are various other types of
obstacles and problems we face each day. We lose hope and think to quit. But when we provide a
motivational environment to ourselves, our sense of purpose gets activated.
Motivation is important to smile and become the happiest person amidst failure or challenges.
Motivation is important to become a master in any art and skill. Motivation is important for
innovation. Motivation is important to achieve career goals. Motivation is important to allow good
habits to follow you. Motivation is important to become successful in life. Motivation is everything.
