Assignment - 5 Section of Solids and Development of Surfaces
The document contains 11 assignments involving drawing sections, views, and developing surfaces of various 3D solids including cubes, prisms, pyramids, cones that have been cut by different section planes. The solids are cut or intersected in different ways, and students are tasked with creating accurate drawings of the views and sections as well as developing the surfaces of the remaining portions.

CET 101 - Computer Aided Engineering Drawing
Assignment: 5 - Section of solids and development of surfaces Marks: 110
Due Date: 13/4/2017
1. A cube 50 mm side is cut by a section plane, perpendicular to V.P., inclined at 450 to
H.P., and passing through the top end of axis. Draw its front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section. 2. A square prism, base 40 mm side axis 80 mm long has its base on the H.P. and its faces equally inclined to the V.P. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to V.P. inclined at 600to H.P. and passing through a point on the axis, 55 mm above the H.P. Draw its front view, sectional top view and true shape of section. 3. A hexagonal prism with side of base 25 mm long, height 65 mm, has a lateral face on the H.P. and the axis parallel to V.P. It is cut by a vertical section plane the H.T. which makes an angle of 450with XY and which cuts the axis at a point 20 mm from one of its end. Draw its sectional front view and true shape of the section. Also develop the surface of remaining solid. 4. A hexagonal pyramid, base 30 mm side and axis 65 mm long, is resting on its base edges on the H.P. with two edges parallel to V.P. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to V.P. inclined at 450 to H.P. and intersecting the axis at appoint 25 mm above the base. Draw the front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section. Also develop surface of the remaining solid. 5. A pentagonal pyramid, base 30 mm side and axis 60 mm long is lying on one of its triangular faces on the H.P. with the axis parallel to V.P. A vertical section plane whose H.T. bisect the top view of the axis and makes an angle of 300 with the reference line, cuts the pyramid, removing its top part. Draw the top view sectional front view, true shape of the section and development of the surface of the remaining portion of the pyramid. 6. A hexagonal pyramid base 30 mm side and axis 75 mm long resting on its base on H.P. with two of its edges parallel to the V.P. is cut by two section planes, both perpendicular to V.P. The horizontal section plane cuts the axis at a point 35 mm from the apex. Another plane which makes an angle of 450 with the H.P also intersects the axis at the same point. Draw the front view sectional top view and develop the surface of the remaining part of the pyramid. 7. A cone base 50 mm diameter and axis 80 mm long is resting on its base on the H.P. It is cut by a sectional plane perpendicular to V.P. and inclined at 450to H.P. and cutting the axis at a point 35 mm from the apex. Draw its front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section. Also develop the surface of the remaining solid. 8. A cone, diameter of base 50 mm and axis 65 mm long is lying on the H.P. on one of its generators with the axis parallel to V.P. It is cut by a horizontal section plane 12 mm above the ground. Draw front view, its sectional top view and development of its surface. 9. A hexagonal prism of side 25 mm and height 75 mm has its axis perpendicular to the VP. A section plane inclined at 25o to the VP bisects the axis of the prism. Develop the surface of the truncated solid. 10. A right circular cone has its axis parallel to both HP and VP. It is cut by two section planes, perpendicular to VP and intersecting at the mid-point of the axis. Both the planes are equally inclined to the axis. Develop the surface of the truncated solid. 11. A right circular cone, diameter of base 50 mm and height 65 mm, rests on its base rim on HP with its axis inclined at 45o to HP. It is cut by a section plane inclined at 35o to the HP and cutting the axis at a distance of 30 mm from the base. Develop the surface of the truncated solid.
