Experiment No: 2: 1) Why Is The System Being Developed?

This document outlines the scope of a project to develop an online college admission system using the W5HH principle of software engineering. The system will automate and streamline the admission process, saving time and manual work. It will include a user-friendly GUI and database to store applicant information. A team of 7 people will be responsible for different roles like business analysis, design, development, testing, and user support. The project will be completed in stages with checkpoints to report status and accommodate any needed changes. Required resources are a computer with installed development tools and a database. The finished system could be used by any engineering college for their admissions.

Experiment No: 2

Aim: Define Problem statement and Project scope using W5HH Principle.
Theory:

Software Project Scope:

The first software project management activity is the determination of software scope. Scope is defined
by answering the following questions:
Context: How does the software to be built fit into a larger system, product, or business
context, and what constraints are imposed as a result of the context?
Information Objectives: What

Problem Statement:
Online College Admission Process
This project deals with Online College Admission. This project will include all the steps in the
admission procedure required with all its details in this procedure.
This project is mainly intended for that end user who has basic knowledge of computers. This
project will have a user friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) using ASP.Net with a database using SQL
server or oracle to help store student information during admissions.
The following project description using the W5HH principle of Software Engineering will answer a
few basic questions about this project.
W5HH Principle
1) Why is the system being developed?
A) All parties should assess the validity of business reasons for software work. Stated in another
way, does the business purpose justify the expenditure of people time and money?
PROJECT USAGE:
This project is being developed to computerize the admission procedure for engineering college.
This will surely help to speed up the admission procedure and also save a lot of manual work on part
of the college staff.

2) What will be done?

A) Identify the functionality to be built, and by implication, the tasks required to get the job done.
PROJECT USAGE:
The databases provided in the project will help to save the information of the students after
their admissions persistently in the computer soon after their admissions and no extra time would
be needed to do it later on.
The GUI’s provided would hide the complexity involved in the procedure and reduces the
burden on the people involved in the data entry work. So the major tasks to be performed in this
project is to build a user friendly GUI and creating the database in a manner such that it has all the
data required from the student during his admissions.
3) When will it be accomplished?
A) Establish your work flow and time line for key project tasks and identify the milestones required
by the customer.
PROJECT USAGE:
The project would be completed in a step by step procedure such that all aspects required for
making it a complete would be done on schedule.
After each schedule the office-staff and the supervisor of the project would be summarized
about the proceedings and further steps will be informed. If any changes are requested then they
would be taken care by the team members.

4) Who is responsible for a function?

A) The role and responsibility of each member of the software team must be defined.
PROJECT USAGE:
Team Members:
Roll No. Name Role

1 A Business Analyst
2 B Database Administrator
3 C Designer
4 D GUI developer
5 E Programmer/Developer
6 F Tester
7 G User

5) Where are they located organizationally?

A)  Not all roles and responsibilities reside within the software team itself. The customer, users, and
other stake holders also have responsibilities.
PROJECT USAGE:
A major role in the development of this software from the people other than the software
developer team is the office-staff who manages the admissions of F.E and S.E. in the college.
They will provide a good insight of the requirements in the project before and during the
projects development.

6) How will the job be done technically and managerially?

A) Once product scope is established, a management and technical strategy for the project must be
defined.
PROJECT USAGE:
Technically this project would require to be done by the principles of Software Engineering.

7) How much of each resource is needed?

A) The answer lies in developing estimates like:
 a) Software scope and feasibility.
 b) Resources.
PROJECT USAGE:
The resources required would be a computer with Visual Studion.net and SQL server database
installed on it. The following are the

Scope of the project:

This would be applicable to all the engineering colleges for their admission procedure. Being easy
to use and handle, any person with minimum computer knowledge can use it.
