Breton Stripes Sweater

This pattern creates a classic Breton striped sweater with an off-the-shoulder neckline. The sweater is worked from the bottom up in cotton yarn, featuring alternating stripes of grey and burgundy. The body and sleeves are worked in rows and rounds respectively, increasing and decreasing stitches to shape the relaxed fit.

Breton Stripes Sweater From the October 2018 issue by Maz Kwok See more patterns in the sweaters category.

Create your own iconic

sweater featuring the
timeless Breton stripes.
Traditionally described as a
cotton top with blue
stripes, the Breton style
originated from French
navy uniforms in the late
1800s. Inspired by this
trend, this sweater
incorporates stripes with a
modern twist – a relaxed fit
and an off-the-shoulder
neckline.

Pattern Notes
The body is worked flat from the bottom up with two identical pieces.

Hemline and sleeves are worked in rounds.

I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each row/rnd instead of ch 3. There’s
another good crochet technique to use is ch 2, dc into same stitch (count as first dc). In the
pattern it simply states dc into first stitch for every first dc of each row/round, so just
choose your best technique.
