1. A 400 watt carrier is modulated to a depth of 75 percent.

Calculate the total power in the

modulated wave.

2. A broadcast AM transmitter radiates 50 KW of carrier power. What will be radiated power at

85% of modulation and what is the sideband power?

3. Consider the modulating signal m(t)=20 cos(2πt) volts and carrier signal c(t)=50cos(100πt). i)
Sketch to scale resulting AM wave for 75% modulation. ii) Find the power delivered across a
load of 100 Ω due to this AM wave.

4. One input to an AM modulator is a 500 kHz carrier with peak amplitude of 32V. The second
input is a 12KHZ modulating signal whose amplitude is sufficient to produce a ±14 V Pchange in
the amplitude of the envelope. Determine the following a) upper and lower sideband frequencies
b) modulation coefficient, percentage of modulation c) Draw the output frequency spectrum.

5. A standard AM transmission, sinusoidally modulated to depth of 40%, produces sideband

frequencies of 6.824 and 6.854 MHZ. The amplitude of each sideband frequency is
50V.Determine the amplitude and frequency of the carrier.

6. The r.m.s antenna current of an AM transmitter is 10A when unmodulated and 12A when
sinusoidally modulated. Calculate the modulation index.

7. The output power of an AM transmitter is 1KW when sinusoidally modulated to depth of

100%.calculate the power in each sideband when the modulation depth is reduced to 50%.

8. An AM transmitter has unmodulated carrier power of 10KW. It can be modulated by

sinusoidal modulating voltage to a maximum depth of 40% without overloading. If the maximum
index is reduced to 30% what is the extend up to which the unmodulated carrier power can be
increased to avoid overloading?

9. A broadcast AM transmitter radiates 50KW of carrier power. What will be the radiated power
at 85% modulation?

10. An audio frequency signal 10 sin2π (500)t. Assume modulation index=0.2. Find i) sideband
frequencies ii) amplitude of each sideband iii) bandwidth required.

11. The total power content of an AM signal under single tune modulation is 2 KW. Find the
power being transmitted at the carrier frequency and at each of the sidebands under 100%
modulation.
