SCENE 2go User Manual

Chapter 1: Introduction

1.1 Overview
SCENE 2go makes it easy for you to share read-only scan projects with
partners and customers.
SCENE 2go consists of an app and a viewer. The app is installed in SCENE
and used to transfer the viewer and scan projects to the storage media that
you choose. The viewer is portable and does not require an Internet
connection for most features.
The SCENE 2go viewer and scan projects are meant to be saved on a USB
stick and used on a Windows or macOS device but you can transfer to
practically any storage media. You can also transfer to a folder and then copy
the folder to a Windows or macOS tablet or burn on a DVD.

1.2 SCENE 2go compared to SCENE WebShare Cloud

SCENE 2go has some similarities to SCENE WebShare Cloud. If you are
familiar with SCENE WebShare Cloud, then you have a head start with
SCENE 2go. Here is a summary of the main differences between the two
products.

NOTICE SCENE 2go SCENE WebShare Cloud

Preparing the SCENE You must download and install the Everything needed to export and
project SCENE 2go app before you can upload projects to SCENE

Chapter 3: Creating the data

Before using a scan project in SCENE 2go, you must use the SCENE
software to create data in SCENE 2go format for the project.

NOTE: SCENE 2go uses the same data format as SCENE

WebShare Cloud. If you have already created data for SCENE
WebShare Cloud, you may skip to Transferring the project.

To create the SCENE 2go data:

1. Open your scan project in SCENE.

2. In the Apps pane, select SCENE 2go > Create SCENE 2go data.

3. Adjust the Export and Project settings according to your needs, then select
Export. (You can learn more about these settings in the Export chapter of
the SCENE User Manual.) Depending on the number of scans in the
project and on the export options you choose, this can take a long time.
After the export data is successfully created, you can transfer the data to your
USB stick. Note that if you make any changes to your SCENE project after you
create the SCENE 2go data, those changes will not be visible when you
transfer the data. If you want the changes to be visible in SCENE 2go, you
must create the data again.

3.1 Export settings

The Export chapter of the SCENE User Manual provides an in-depth
explanation of all the Export settings. (Refer to the Export SCENE WebShare
Cloud Project section.) The following settings are especially relevant for
SCENE 2go.
Color Settings: Export gray scale images: Gray scale images are
necessary in order to view scans using the intensity color mode in the SCENE
2go viewer.
Create scan overlays: If you select this, users can hover over a scan marker
in the Overview Map and see a color overlay that shows what part of the
Overview Map is included in that scan. This is known as Scan colorization.
Note that this selection can significantly increase the time required to create
the SCENE 2go data.

Chapter 4: Transferring the project

Use the instructions below to transfer the project to a USB stick or other
storage media after you have created the SCENE 2go data as explained in
Creating the data on page 7.

NOTE: If you make any changes to the project in SCENE after you
create the SCENE 2go data, you need to recreate the data before
transferring the project.

1. In SCENE, open the scan project that you want to transfer.

2. Select the Transfer SCENE 2go Data menu entry. The Transfer SCENE
2go Data window opens.

3. Click the [...] button to browse to the folder where you want to save the
SCENE 2go data. Usually this is a folder on a USB stick or other portable
device. You can also transfer to a folder on your computer and then burn
that folder onto a DVD if the scan project is not too large. (Note that running
from a DVD is very slow.)

4. Select Copy all linked files if you want to put files referenced by links onto
the USB stick, e.g., links in annotations (documentation objects). The files
will open automatically when the user clicks on the link in the annotation’s
context menu or property page in the SCENE 2go viewer.

5. Click Transfer Data to start the data transfer. The SCENE 2go viewer files
are transferred as well if they're not already present in the destination
folder.
When the transfer is complete, the Transfer Result window opens. There, you
can see some information about the transfer and can use the Open in SCENE
2go button to open the transferred project in the SCENE 2go viewer.

2go on Windows.bat. For macOS, double-click Start SCENE
2go on Mac.command. Please confirm any warning messages which might
appear.
SCENE 2go opens with an overview of the transferred projects. The
functionality is similar to SCENE WebShare Cloud, but you do not need to log
in.
The available features of the project depend on the settings that were made in
the Export window in SCENE. For example, if you exported the project with a
Layout Plan, the plan will be shown in the Overview Map in SCENE 2go.

5.3 Viewing a project

The viewer provides a Project Overview that lets you choose the project you
want to view, an Overview Map that shows you all the scans in the project in
relation to each other, and a Scan View where you can explore individual scan
panoramas and 3D Views, as well as make measurements. You can also
explore information about the project in the Project Content page, and set

Chapter 7: Overview Map

7.1 Overview Map

The Overview Map provides an overview of the selected scan project. Open a
project by clicking for the project displayed in the Featured Box or in the
Project List.

Figure 7-1 Overview Map

Scan Positions All scan positions are shown by an icon. Its color varies and can either
indicate the elevation of the device that made the scan, or the time that the
scan was made (You can set this in the Scan Colorization section of the
settings). Below each icon, a label with the scan's name is shown. Because
the width of the label is limited, longer names are truncated. You can hover
over the label to get a tooltip with the complete name.

Scan groups Depending on the resolution in which the Overview Map is shown, scan
markers may be merged to groups to keep the Overview Map uncluttered.
Groups of scans are shown by a group icon. The color of the icon depends on
the height or age of the scans (from red to blue) in the group. If the “Individual”
option is selected in the Scan Colorization settings, the average age and
height of the included scans is used.
The number in the icon shows the number of scans in the group.
Each scan can be seen by zooming in or selecting the group icon.
When zoomed out, moving the mouse pointer over a group highlights the scan
area if “Create Scan Overlays” was enabled when the SCENE 2go data was
created. See Export settings for more information.

7.3.1 Data Filter Panel

If your project has categories or tags, the Data Filter Panel enables you to
show or hide Categories or Tags in the Overview Map, Scan View and Project
Content view. This may be an advantage especially in extensive projects that
get crowded when showing all contained objects or when you work on a part
of the project and don't need the entire information. Note that categories and
tags can only be created in SCENE WebShare Cloud. This means that
categories and tags will only be found in projects for which a SCENE
WebShare Cloud data import was carried out in SCENE before the creation of
the SCENE 2go project data.

With this task, you can create point-to-point measurements. Note that the
measurements cannot be saved, and thus are lost when the SCENE 2go
viewer is closed.
Point-to-point measurements compute and display the distances and angles
between points you select. A point-to-point measurement can consist of
numerous points. The distance between each pair of points and the overall
distance of all points is computed.
Select the Measure Distance task from the Task Panel.
1. Select points: Select at least two
measurement points. The XYZ
coordinates of each selected point
are shown in the task step. After
picking three points, the checkbox

8.2 Panorama View vs. 3D View

Panorama and 3D are the two views available in the Scan View. Panorama
View lets you see the scan as a 360 degree photograph from one viewpoint.
3D View enables you to actually change the point of view from which you are
looking at the scan. For example, you can move away from the center of the
scan, turn around and look past it.
The 3D View shows individual scans in 3D, without any preprocessing.
Depending on your hardware, the 3D View might not be available.

NOTE: If the 3D View is not available or does not work correctly,

check to ensure that your graphics card driver has the most
current version.

8.3 Navigating in the Scan View

When using the Panorama View, you can change the angle from which you
look at the scan (up, down, right, left). In the 3D View you can change not only
the angle, but also the position from which you view the scan. You can
navigate using the mouse, the keyboard or a combination of the two. See the
table below for a list of actions. Note that not all actions are available in the
Panorama View.
On a touch-screen device you can also use the virtual joystick to move
forward and backward.
The virtual joystick is activated with a long press anywhere in the Main
Window as long as there is enough distance to the window borders. This
means you can use the virtual joystick with your left or right hand.
Note that in the Panorama View the scan rotates in the direction of mouse
movement, while in the 3D View the scan rotates in the opposite direction.

reflected less. The amount of light reflected by an object varies considerably
depending on the type of material, color, and orientation to the scanner. This
mode is often useful when looking at areas of a scan that were too dark to
photograph clearly.

NOTE: The color mode has no affect on Scan colorization.
