Silent mutations that occur in DNA are quite common in living cells and usually
involve no effects on phenotype
Codon usage bias relates to variations in the extent at which similar codons appear in DNA
coding. The genetic code that contains the codon acts as a guide for deciding whether the
DNA-encoded genes are decoded into proteins.
The association between the codon in messenger RNA and the anticodon in an aminoacyl-
transfer RNA is a critical association in protein synthesis. Codon usage bias exists when
different organisms have differences in the frequency of synonymous codons found in their
DNA coding, implying that some codons are rarely utilized while other codons are
commonly used in a particular organism.
