PART 3 - EXECUTI0N
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Prior to all work of this Section, carefully inspect the installed work of all other
trades and verify that all such work is complete to the point where this
installation may properly commence.
B. Verify that gypsum drywall may be installed in accordance with the original
design, all pertinent codes and regulations, and the manufacturers'
recommendations as approved by the Architect.
B. Install ceiling framing independent of walls, columns, and above ceiling work.
C. Refer to Drawings for indication of partitions extend stud framing through the
ceiling to the structure above. Maintain clearance under structural building
members to avoid deflection transfer to studs. Provide extended leg ceiling
runners.
E. Blocking: Install blocking for support of plumbing fixtures, toilet partitions, and
toilet accessories.
B. Erect furring channels vertically; space 400 mm. on center from floor and ceiling
lines.
A. Erect single layer board in most economical direction, with ends and edges
occurring over firm bearing.
C. When cutting by scoring, cut through the face paper and then snap the panel back
away from the cut face; then break the back paper by snapping the gypsum board
in the reverse direction or by cutting the back paper.
D. Smooth all cut ends and edges of panels as necessary to obtain a smooth joint.
E. For cut-outs in panels for pipes, fixtures, and other small openings, make holes
and cut-outs by sawing or by such other method as will not fracture the core or
tear the covering and with such accuracy that plates, escutcheons, or trim will
cover the edges.
H. Drive the fasteners slightly below the surface of the board, with heads forming a
slight depression below the surface of the drywall. Fasteners shall not be driven
closer than 3/8" from the edges and the ends of the boards. Hold the drywall
adjacent to the fastening joint tightly against the framing members while driving
fasteners. Dependence on the fasteners to draw the drywall against the framing
shall not be acceptable.

2. Feather coats onto adjoining surfaces so that camber is maximum 1.6 mm.
3. Taping, filling, and sanding is not required at surfaces behind adhesive applied
ceramic tile.
3. Apply the second coat of the joint compound over the embedding coat,
filling the panel tape flush with the surface: cover the tape and feather
slightly beyond the first coat. On the joints with no tapes, cover the tape
and feather at least 4" on either side of the tape. Allow the second coat to
dry thoroughly prior to the application of the finishing coat.
4. Spread the finishing coat evenly over and extensively somewhat beyond
the second coat on all joints and feather to a smooth uniform finish. On
the tapered edges, do not allow the finished joints to protrude beyond the
plane of the surface. Apply a finishing coat to cover the tape and taping
the compound at all tapered angles to provide a true angle. Where
necessary, sand between the coats and after the final application of the
compound to provide a smooth surface ready for the decoration.
C. Finishing Fasteners
1. Apply the first coat to all beads and trims and properly feather them
from the ground to the plane of the surface. The compound must be
thoroughly dry prior to the application of the second coat.
2. Apply the second coat in the same way as the first coat, extending the
compound slightly beyond the first coat. The compound must be
thoroughly dry prior to the application of the finishing coat.
3. Apply the finishing coat to all beads and trims, and the compound
slightly beyond the second coat and properly feathering them from the
ground to the plane of the surface. Sand the finish as necessary to
provide a flat smooth surface ready for the decoration.
3.7 TOLERANCES
A. Fill, spackle and sand gypsum drywall surfaces having the depressions, gouges,
cuts and dimples to present a smooth level surface acceptable for painting by
other trades.
B. Spackle the openings around the pipes, the switches and other framed openings.
3.9 CLEANING
A. Upon the completion of each phase and area, remove the rubbish from the site,
leaving the floors broom clean. Excess materials, scaffolding, tools, and other
equipment shall be removed from the building and the job site.
