joint treatment and the concealing screw depressions.

3.6 JOINT TREATMENT

A. Treatment for Joints

1. Tape, fill, and exposed joints, edges, and comers to produce smooth surface
ready to receive finishes.

2. Feather coats onto adjoining surfaces so that camber is maximum 1.6 mm.

3. Taping, filling, and sanding is not required at surfaces behind adhesive applied
ceramic tile.

B. Joint Compound and Taping

1. Mix the joint compound in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s

recommendations.

2. Apply the taping or the embedding compound in a thin uniform layer to

all joints and angles for be the reinforcement. Immediately apply the
reinforcing tape centered over the joint and seated in the compound.
Sufficient compound-approx. 1/64" to 1/32" must remain under the tape
to provide the proper bond. Follow immediately with a thin coat to
embed the tape, but not to function as a second coat. Fold and embed
tape properly in all interior angles to provide a true angle. The tape and
the embedding coat must be thoroughly dry prior to the application of the
second coat.

3. Apply the second coat of the joint compound over the embedding coat,
filling the panel tape flush with the surface: cover the tape and feather
slightly beyond the first coat. On the joints with no tapes, cover the tape
and feather at least 4" on either side of the tape. Allow the second coat to
dry thoroughly prior to the application of the finishing coat.

4. Spread the finishing coat evenly over and extensively somewhat beyond
the second coat on all joints and feather to a smooth uniform finish. On
the tapered edges, do not allow the finished joints to protrude beyond the

plane of the surface. Apply a finishing coat to cover the tape and taping
the compound at all tapered angles to provide a true angle. Where
necessary, sand between the coats and after the final application of the
compound to provide a smooth surface ready for the decoration.

C. Finishing Fasteners

1. Apply taping compound or an all-purpose type compound to the fastener

depressions as the first coat. Follow with a minimum of two additional
coats of topping or all-purpose compound, leaving all depressions level
with the plane of the surface.

D. Finishing Beads and Trims

1. Apply the first coat to all beads and trims and properly feather them
from the ground to the plane of the surface. The compound must be
thoroughly dry prior to the application of the second coat.

2. Apply the second coat in the same way as the first coat, extending the
compound slightly beyond the first coat. The compound must be
thoroughly dry prior to the application of the finishing coat.

3. Apply the finishing coat to all beads and trims, and the compound
slightly beyond the second coat and properly feathering them from the
ground to the plane of the surface. Sand the finish as necessary to
provide a flat smooth surface ready for the decoration.

3.7 TOLERANCES

A. Maximum Variation of Finished Gypsum Board Surface from True Flatness: 3

rom. in 3 m. in any direction.

3.8 PREPARATION FOR FINISHES

A. Fill, spackle and sand gypsum drywall surfaces having the depressions, gouges,
cuts and dimples to present a smooth level surface acceptable for painting by
other trades.
B. Spackle the openings around the pipes, the switches and other framed openings.
