Editing a Smart Object


1. Select the Smart Object from the Layers panel.
2. Choose Layer > Smart Objects > Edit Contents.
3. Insert you design, then choose File > Save.
4. Those changes will be reflected upon returning to your main psd file.

If you encounter this or similar error message “Could not update smart object files because the file is
empty” just click OK and go back to your main psd file.

Displace
If Photoshop doesn’t update the displacement maps automati-
cally then follow the instructions below.

1. Double click on “Displace” smart filter


2. When the “Displace” dialog opens click “OK” (you can ex-
periment with these settings or leave them as they are).
3. “Choose a displacement map” window is going to open.
4. Choose “Displace.psd” which is located in the same folder
that contains your main.psd file and click open.
5. Toggle “smart filter visibility”

You can also follow this instructions if you want to change


the strength of displace filter and edit the appearance of your
design.

The “Displace” filter will help you to achieve a realistic look.

Changing the t-shirt color


1. Select the layer from the Layers panel.
2. Double-click the Layer thumbnail in the Layers panel.
3. Choose the color and click OK.

The following layers have changeable color option:

- “Your Collar Color Here”


- “Your T-Shirt Color Here”
- “Your Sleeves Color Here”
- “Your Cuffs Color Here”

If you do not want to have separated parts colored then you can just add one more layer in the smart
object layer below your design and fill it with the color of your choice to accelerate the procces.

Changing the background
1. Select the “Your Background Here” Smart Object Layer from the Layers panel.
2. Edit the Smart Object (see “Editing a Smart Object”).

Editing the visual appearance of your design


You can experiment with the blending modes of the following layers in order to alter the appearance of
your design:

- “Background Shading”

You can experiment with the opacity or the blending modes of the following layers and groups in order
to alter the appearance of your design:

- “Your Design Here” Group

“Multiple” or “Linear Burn” are good choices of blending modes.


Linear burn tends to give you darker and more saturated image than multiply mode would and it will
accentuate the texture.

Higher opacity will result in more saturated colors.


If your design is very dark or black then you might want to lower the opacity to achieve realistic results.

Depth of field
If you want to add depth of field do the following:

1. Flatten image.
2. Go to Filter > Blur > Lens Blur.
3. For Source choose “Lens Blur Mask”.
4. Experiment with the settings and click “OK” when you are
satisfied with the results. For our previews we use only “Ra-
dius” and everything else is “0”, but you are free to experiment.

The following layers have depth of field option:

- “7.psd”, “8.psd”, “9.psd”, “10.psd”, “11.psd”, “12.psd”.

Tips
1. Experiment with levels once you are done with the smart object editing to achieve the desired
brightness and contrast.
2. Rotate and crop the image to achieve different results.
3. Layer styles can look different on a different magnification value. After you are finished with editing,
Flatten your image or Copy Merged everything into a new layer to avoid this effect.
