Chapter 8 More Questions
Verb Stem + (으)러 is used to say "to go to do something" or "to come to do something” such as "to go
to eat" or "to come to watch a movie," :
Verb stem + 으러 (consonant ending)
Verb stem + 러 (vowel ending)
Eg.
1. "to go to eat"
먹다 – 먹 + 으러 = 먹으러
먹으러 가다
2. “to come to eat”
먹으러 오다
NOTE: Verb stems ending in ㄹ will add 러 to the end.
Eg. To go to play
놀다 – 놀 +러 = 놀러
놀러 가다
Practice:
1. To go to watch a movie
2. To come to play games
3. To go to study in America
나가다 means “leave” or "to go out from where you are and go somewhere else. “
나오다 means "to go out from where you are and come here.”
Eg. 저는 지금 나갑니다.
어디 means "where," but you’ll often see 에 added onto the end to add emphasis – "where to" or "where
at."
Eg.
1. Where do you want to go to?
2. Where is it?
3. Where is the money?
4. Where are you now?
이 and 가 is used as subject marker in a question. This is different from the Topic Marker (은 or 는).
Eg.
1. Is Mrs. Kim Yung-hee going? / Are you going?
2. Do cats like dogs? / Do you like dogs?
누구 means “who” but when 누구 is combined with a Subject Marker (누구 + 가), it changes to
become 누가.
Eg.
1. Who is going?
Who is going to watch a movie?
그러면 means "well then," and can only be used at the beginning of a sentence.
