I. OBJECTIVE

At the end of the lesson, 85% of the students are expected to:

a) identify the different transition words and use it in a paragraph;


b) recognize the importance of using transitional devices; and
c) write sentences using transition words.

1. Motivation
- Will post a video clip in the projector screen showing the Manhattan
Bridge.

2. Analysis
Follow up questions:
 Is a bridge important?
 What is the main purpose of having bridge?
 What do you think will happen if there are no bridges?
 In English grammar, how do you call words that function like a bridge?

3. Generalization

TRANSITION WORDS are used to show relationship between ideas. Transition words are
like bridges between your paragraphs. It helps you arrange your ideas so that the
readers will understand your paragraph.

4. Application
Direction: Underline the transition words on the story
Once upon a time, there lived a family of bears in a lovely wooded area. One
day while the bears were not at home, a little girl came to the house. First, she
knocked the door. She waited but no one answered her knock. Because nobody’s
around, she entered the house and ate some food, and then she napped on one of
the beds. When the bears returned home, they were surprised to see the little girl.
The roars of the bears woke her up and she fearfully ran from the house. As a result
of her experience, she never again went to the woods alone.

IV. EVALUATION

Determine the function of the underlined transition words in the story and use on sentence.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Select a topic from the list below. Write a paragraph about the topic using transition words.
Circle each transition words used in your paragraph.
