Corporate Social Responsibility Activites of Infosys
CSR is part of Business Ethics. Ethics represent the process of doing things that are
morally correct. Through CSR, companies are trying to maximize their positive impact
on society and minimize the bad one.
The companies, crossing the prescribed threshold, are required to spend at least
2%of their average net profit for the immediately preceding three financial years on
CSR activities.
As per section 135 of the Companies Act 2013 and rules issued there under, CSR
norms are applicable on companies which has
Infosys ltd, an digital services and consulting conglomerate has spend Rs. 342crore as
against its CSR expenditure of Rs 340crore (2%of the net profit of Rs 17,018crore)
towards various schemes of Corporate Social Responsibility as prescribed under
section 135 of the Act, its Annual Report for the year 2018-19 revealed.
Infosys has been an early adopter of CSR initiatives. The company implemented
social development projects primarily through its CSR trust, the Infosys foundation
established in 1996. The CSR works are supporting project in the area of education,
eradication of hunger and malnutrition, art and culture, healthcare, destitute care
and rehabilitation, environmental sustainability, disaster relief and rural
development.
CSR should be inbuilt into the functioning of various activities of corporate sector. It
should be way of life for companies. CSR does not mean ‘earning money by hook or
crook and delivering portion of it as tax saving measures or otherwise in name of
welfare activities.
