1. Introduction
The programs created by users of the DNE-1000 and ClipEdit workstations are
represented on a Timeline GUI. However, the data stored by the system to describe
the clips and transitions present on the timeline is in the form of an Edit Decision
List.
2. EDL Structure
Each clip in the EDL data is linked with an entry in the Material Table of the
Material Database and this linkage is maintained until the material data is deleted.
The EDL is stored in a file locally to the editor on which the edits are being carried
out until the edit is saved or registered.
In the EDL File a description of how the clips were arranged on the Timeline is
stored. This description is stored as a list of items such as the Source Material ID,
the Filing Source Volume, SOM timecode, Duration, etc. of each clip with
information about the type of transition inserted between each clip and the next.
3. EDL Storage
3.1. Newsbase
During editing the EDL is stored locally on the DNE-1000 PC.
When and edit is registered, the EDL is copied to the Newsbase Material Database.
The EDL table in this database stores a list of the currently registered EDL files in
the system.
3.2. ClipServer
The Current Project can be saved using File->Save or File->Save As. Both of these
save a copy of the current timeline EDL to the ClipServer Database.

On Register EDL with no further processing from the ClipEdit GUI, the EDL is
initially transferred to the Newsbase Material Database.
The High resolution video is transferred from the Editing Server to the On Air
Server storage according to the EDL.
The Edit Gateway process of the Newsbase software then negotiates with the Clip
GW process on the Clipserver to organise transfer of an audio completion file at the
same time as the High resolution video is transferred. The final real time command
to start the playout of the audio completion file from the ClipIO Targa card is sent
via a GPI pulse form the On Air Server IDC.
The Video and Audio are combined in the BKPF-105 series multiplexer. The audio
completion file is used to replace tracks 1 and 2 of the SDI embedded audio.
