A. Surface Preparation:
A.1 Roughen substrate where grout below base plate will be located, by
chipping manual or mechanical chipping.
A.2 Clean the roughened area from loose chips and fragments by wire
brushing and blowing with oil-free and pressurized air.
A.3 Saturate with water to continuous damp condition, the grout application
area of the substrate for approx. 24 hours before the grout pouring /
application.
B. Grout Formwork Preparation:
B.2 Assemble and fix tightly the formworks into place, utilizing double-sided
foam tape and weights to hold the flowable grout, Sika Grout-215, while
pouring.
B.3 Just before pouring, repeat blowing of pressurized air to effect a final
cleaning and expel ponding water which may accumulate at the
application area, now ready to receive the grout.
C.1 Prepare a mixing plastic or metal pail, fully opened on top and with a
capacity of about 20 liters. Pour water, approximately 16.8% of Sika
Grout-215 (4.2 ltrs./bag) by weight of the powder, into the pail, add Sika
Grout powder gradually, while mixing (with a low-speed drill-600 rpm
max.) with a disc agitator attached. A one-bagger or 1/2 bagger mixer
may be used for mixing, but to a controlled drum rotation. If mixing water
is inadequate for a required consistency, add water as necessary, and
mix well the grout (about 3 mins.) until a smooth and even grout
consistency is achieved. Stop the mixing, and leave untouched the grout
mixture for another 30 secs. to 1 minute, inorder to allow entrained air in
the gout to escape.
C.2 Pour the grout into one side of the open and fixed formwork, around the
base plate. Maintain a constant hydrostatic pressure to ensure
continuous flow from side of the open formwork towards the opposite
side.
C.3 Use cable or chain to make sure that no cavity underneath the base
plate is left unfilled with grout, and to aid in making sure that entrapped
air can escape.
C.4 When all the formed shoulders of the base plate are filled to the level of
the formwork, cut the surface overflowing grout at one go, roughly
leveling the pour with the top edge of the formwork.
C.5 Cover the grout surface or the whole base plate and formwork set-up
with a wet burlap or any plastic sheet to protect the grout surface from
drying air and high ambient temperatures. Also, cover to shade the grout
applied base plate from direct sunlight.
C.6 Observe strict curing a wet burlap covering the area at least 3 days.
D. Post Grout Application Clean-up and Next Stage Preparation:
D.3 Hardened grout shoulders of the base plate may be ground to incline
surface tapered to the top towards the bottom edges of the base plates.
