The TSH Level I

The document discusses TSH levels and hypothyroidism. A high TSH level indicates the pituitary gland is asking the thyroid to produce more T4, which likely means the thyroid is underactive or hypothyroid. Symptoms of an underactive thyroid include weight gain, depression, fatigue, feeling cold, hair loss, and tingling in hands and feet.

You are on page 1/ 1

The TSH level in your blood reveals how much T4 your pituitary gland is asking your thyroid gland to

make. If your TSH levels are abnormally high, it could mean you have an underactive thyroid, or
hypothyroidism. ... If your TSH is higher than 4.0 mU/L on repeat tests, you probably have
hypothyroidism.

If you have a hypoactive (under active) thyroid, you may notice these symptoms:

Weight gain, depression, forgetfulness, decreased concentration or fatigue.

Hoarseness, feeling cold or sluggish, hair loss, dry skin, round puffy face (seen with a severely depressed
thyroid gland), or tingling in your hands/feet
