Maryhill College, Inc.: Practices of Senior High School Humss Students of Maryhill College On Civic Responsibility

This thesis examines the civic responsibility practices of senior high school students majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) at Maryhill College in Lucena City. A survey was conducted with 279 HUMSS students to determine their levels of participation in volunteerism, community engagement, and organizational involvement. The findings showed low percentages of active participation across all areas. Most students said social media prolonged their involvement, while education was most supportive. To address this, the researchers created an informational brochure on civic responsibility to encourage youth participation and highlight its importance.

ABSTRACT
PRACTICES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL HUMSS ON CIVIC
RESPONSIBILITY ON MARYHILL COLLEGE. Unpublished Thesis, Maryhill
College, Lucena City, November 2019 (Mr. Matt Wilson Quisao)

The study aims to determine the different practices that the selected senior high

school HUMSS participated and scale how active they are when it comes on civic

responsibility. Descriptive- survey method was utilized by the researchers throughout

the study. The study was conducted at Maryhill College, a Roman Catholic institution

located at M.L. Tagarao St. Lucena City, Quezon formerly known as Maryknoll

College. The respondents were chosen by utilizing simple random sampling. Senior high

school HUMSS strand has a total population of 279; Slovin’s formula was used to

determine the number of respondents needed in the study. Number of representatives

from each section was determining through proportioning the population.

As for the findings of the study, it was found out that the participation of the

HUMSS students are not active and has the low percentage of known in different kind of

practices in terms of volunteerism, community engagement efforts and organizational

involvement. However, the factors that prolong the student to participate on civic

responsibility is social media, while in the factors that help them is the education.

Therefore, the researchers produced a brochure that can tell them what is civic

responsibility, different kind of practices and what is the importance to youth to

participate on their role on community or different kind of responsibility.
