The Resultant Is Within The Middle of One Third: Computed

The document discusses the design of a footing to support a masonry wall. It specifies material properties and calculates the required flexural reinforcement. Main reinforcement of φ 20 bars at 110 mm spacing is required to resist a moment of 222.34 kNm/m. Additional distribution reinforcement of φ 20 bars at 160 mm spacing is also needed. Temperature and shear reinforcement of φ 14 bars at 150 mm spacing is specified. The minimum footing depth is determined as 508 mm based on resisting a nominal shear of 412.85 kN.

4.2 Design for flexure

Although the wall will be supported on soil, the trapezoidal bearing stress distribution is used in the structural design of the footing.
This will produce larger upward forces acting on the toe and smaller upward forces acting on the heel, both of which are conservative.
