ESSAY #1

Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of having online classes

Nowadays, the whole world is going through a horrible situation because of the pandemic
known as COVID-19. Due to this fact, the SENESCYT (“Secretaría Nacional de Educación
Superior Ciencia y Tecnología”) has commanded professors to deliver online classes to their
students because everyone has to stay at home. Actually, there are some advantages and
disadvantages of having online classes. Here I am going to mention some of them.

Among the advantages, I think that having online classes is more comfortable than having
classes in the university because you can join these classes from any place in your home. For
example, you can connect from your bedroom, your living room, your studying room, etc. In
addition, you do not have to be worried about your clothes, so you can wear pajamas or sport
clothes and feel comfortable and happy. Besides, you can save time because you do not have to
leave your house to go to the university. For example, in my case every day I traveled around
almost the entire city to arrive to the university because I live far away from it. Moreover, when
you have online classes you save money. That is, you do not have to buy gas for your car or tickets
for the bus, or to pay for a taxi.

On the other hand, I think that having online classes also involves some disadvantages.
For instance, it is complicated because some students do not have access to internet, or they have
a bad connection. For example, in my case, my internet has a very low signal, and I usually have
problems accessing it. Besides, another disadvantage of having online classes is that you do not
interact face to face with your classmates and your teacher. That is, you learn alone; for me, it is
not a good option because I feel I learn better when I interact with my classmates and my teacher.

In conclusion, there are some advantages and disadvantages of having online classes.
Being comfortable at home, wearing any kinds of clothes and saving money are some of the
advantages of online classes. Conversely, not having a good internet signal or not interacting with
others could be some disadvantages. In spite of the disadvantages, when somebody wants to learn,
he or she can do it anyway. I think it is a matter of discipline and dedication.
