Prescription for the Current "Infodemic": Engaging and Empowering Students through Media Literacy
Monday, 10 Aug 2020, 6.00-7.30pm IST
Speaker:
Dr. Cyndy Scheibe, Founder and Executive Director, Project Look Sharp at Ithaca College, USA
Mr. Chris Sperry, Director of Curriculum & Staff Development, Project Look Sharp at Ithaca College, USA
Description: In today’s increasingly complex and media-saturated world, both teachers and students are faced
with an “Infodemic” of misinformation. Educators need instructional strategies for teaching the media literacy
and critical thinking skills necessary to judge credibility in all types of media messages. Curriculum-driven,
question-based constructivist media decoding (CMD) leverages this power by engaging students at all grade
levels in collaborative analysis of media messages through participatory learning, inquiry and reflection. In this
session, participants will:
view demonstrations of CMD in classroom settings
gain access to hundreds of free classroom-ready resources and models for integrating CMD
find guidelines for using synchronous and asynchronous approaches to engage students in CMD as
part of both face-to-face and online learning
