Lesson Plan in Science

This lesson plan aims to teach students the differences between plant and animal cells by having them compare organelle structures. The lesson begins with an activity to motivate students by flashing pictures and having students identify functions. Students will then study diagrams of plant and animal cells and their parts. They will analyze the cells' shapes, identify structures found in both, and note unique structures. To deepen understanding, students will create a Venn diagram highlighting similarities and differences. The lesson concludes by having students label a cell diagram for assessment.

A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

(Plant and Animal Cells)

MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING COMPETENCY (MELC):

 Differentiate Plant and Animal Cells according to presence or absence of certain organelles.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Differentiate plant cell from animal cell
2. Identify parts and functions of plant and animal cell

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Plant and Animal Cells

A. References
Book: Grade 7 Science Learners Module
Grade 7 Science Teachers Module
B. Materials
Laptop, PowerPoint presentation (pictures of different parts of restaurant, illustrations of plant
and animal cell)

C. Ideas
Plant and animal cells have several differences and similarities. Animal cells do not have cell
walls and chloroplast but plant cells do. Animal cells are round in shape or irregular but plants
have fixed, regular shaped.

D. Processes
Identifying, distinguishing, enumerating, appreciating, analysing

E. Values
Appreciate the function of every details of our system.

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3.
B. Motivation

“Flash Camera, FUNCTION!”

The teacher will FLASH a picture on the screen. The student will give the FUNCTION of the
picture being flashed/presented.
C. Lesson Proper

ACTIVITY:

“Comparing Plant and Animal Cell “

Procedure:
1. Study closely Figure 1 and 2. These are diagrammatic presentations of a plant and animal cells
and their parts.
2. Compare the shape of a plant cell with that of an animal cell as shown in Figures 1 and 2.

ANALYSIS:

Q1. How will you compare the shape of plant cell to animal cell?
Q2. Which cell parts are found in both cells?
Q3. Which are present only in Animal Cells?
Q4. Which are present only in Plant Cells?

ABSTRACTION/ DEEPENING:

What are the similarities and differences between plant and animal cell?
APPLICATION:
Draw a Venn diagram of the similarities and differences of the plant and animal cell

The Venn diagram that students made may look like the one below:

Differences between plant and animal cells:

 Plant and animal cells differ in shape and in some parts. Plant cells are rectangular or angular
or rigid in shape, while animal cells are rounded and somewhat irregular.
 Plant cells have cell walls and chloroplasts which animal cells do not have. Animal cells have
centrioles which plant cells do not have.

Similarity between plant and animal cells:

 Both plant and animal cells have common parts namely: the nucleus, plasma membrane,
cytoplasm, the mitochondrion, rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi body,
vacuole/vesicle, ribosomes and lysosome.

IV. EVALUATION

Choose the letter of the correct answer.

1. Which of the following structures let substances pass in and out of the plant and animal cell?
a. Cell membrane
b. Cell wall
c. Epidermis
d. Mitochondria

2. Which part of the cell contains a green pigment needed for photosynthesis?
a. Centrosome
b. Chromosome
c. Cytoplasm
d. Chloroplast

3. This is the powerhouse of the cell.

a. Lysosome
b. Ribosome
c. Mitochondria
d. Nucleolus

4. Which organelle is found only in a plant cell?

a. Chloroplast
b. Cell wall
c. Both a & b
d. None of the above

5. What part of the cell contains instructions and information to be sent to all parts of the cell?
a. Mitochondria
b. Nucleolus
c. Nucleus
d. Ribosome

V. AGREEMENT
Draw a typical cell and label its parts. Submit these in a short bond paper next meeting.
