Plates in Timber - Final With Solution - Solution22

1) The document describes the design of purlins to support a roof with a slope of 25 degrees. 2) It calculates loads on the purlins from dead loads of roofing and ceiling materials and live loads from rain and wind. 3) The maximum normal and tangential stresses on a trial purlin section are calculated to be below the allowable stress, and deflection is within limits.

A. DESIGN OF A TYPICAL SAWN LUMBER DECKING

Sawn- lumber decking may also be required on floors where equipment or forklift loading produce
concentrated loads for which plywood sheathing is inadequate.Decking is also aesthetically pleasing
because the underside of the decking creates an attractive ceiling feature, obviating the need for
additional plaster or suspended ceiling.

C. DESIGN OF A FLOOR GIRDER

This Girder can be designed as a continuous beam, which will result in a smaller member

Compared to simply supported girders. However ,transporting a 9m customized Timber (150

problems to the contractor. Alternatively, the timber will be delivered to the site into 3 m
long pieces. Our group decided to design the Girder as a simply supported beam

DESIGNING OF STAIRS
Some IBC requirement for stairs (IBC 1009) include the following:

 Stair risers must be ≥ 4 in. and ≤ 7 in. (7.75 in. maximum in groups R-2 and R-3).
 Stair treads (excluding nosing) ≥ 11 in. (10 in. minimum in groups R-2 and R-3).
 Minimum width of stair = 3 ft 8 in.
 Minimum head room clearance = 6 ft 8 in.
 The floor-to-floor height between stair landings must not exceed 12 ft.
