External Source Worksheet

Name of Source: ____________________________________________

Chapter/Section in Book: _____________________________________

Step 1: Before watching/reading the source, note the key terms and people from this section of the
book below:

Step 2: watch/read the source, and provide a (minimum) 400-word summary below. You should
write with sentences and full thoughts; use your own words, do not quote the source directly; include
information about the key terms/people listed in Step 1. When you finish, turn this page over and
finish Step 3. If you need more space, you may attach another piece of paper.
Step 3: Use the space below to compare and contrast the external source with the textbook. You
may do this in sentences & paragraphs, a Venn diagram, competing columns, etc.—But your
meaning should be clear and accessible. Is there any information included in one source but not in
the other? Does one source spend more time/space explaining a certain concept than the other?
Does one source include examples that the other does not? Etc.
