2.3 Final Pulse Stage

The module contains six identical 24 Volt final stages for controlling the corresponding disc-type
thyristors (1.5" up to 4" disc diameter). The pulse inputs are intended to be used with the control
unit CIN (UNS 0880) but can be connected to any other pulse source which provides similar pulse
chains. The amplified pulses are passed to a circuit to increase their steepness. The circuit
comprises RC elements. The module transfers the output pulses to the Faston 6.3 mm terminals.

The device is available in two versions.

The var. 2 has to be used for higher isolation voltages. In this version the pulse
transformers are not included and have to be mounted externally. For this purpose
corresponding Faston connectors are provided.

2.4 Power Supply

The 24 V input voltage is buffered by a capacitor to minimize the feedback to the 24 V supply due
to the firing pulses.

3 CONFIGURATION
3.1 Pulse inputs and Power supply
The pulses as well as the power supply are to be connected by the connector X113 with flat cable.
This cable should be as short as possible.

3.2 Pulse outputs

The pulse outputs are to be wired to the thyristors directly by means of Faston connectors. With
var. 2 an additional grounding contact per output is provided for the connection of a shielded
cable.

3.3 Grounding
The contact to protective earth is provided by mounting bolts and with two additional Faston
connectors.

3.4 TRIAX-cable for var. 2

The gate driver interface GDI has to be connected to the external pulse transformer by a TRIAX
cable according to ABB-Standard HIET 402474 P0001.
Maximum length of cable: 30m

4 COMMISSIONING AND FUNCTION CONTROL

4.1 Connections
Check all external connections.
Check flat cable according to the specification in chapter 6.
Check correct grounding.

4.2 Function Check

A separate function check of the device is not necessary. A probable malfunction is detected by
the system.
