What is the preterite tense?


In Spanish, the preterite tense is used to talk about things that began
and ended at a definite time in the past.
Preterite NOT preterite
Yesterday, I ate a donut. I always ate donuts with my grandpa.
We talked on the phone last week. We used to talk on the phone all the time.
I ate dinner at 6 last night. I always ate dinner late.

THE ENDINGS for


-ER and –IR Verbs:

Conjugation is the same as in the present and the same as you did for –AR verbs.
Step 1: Take off the ending (ER or IR)
Step 2: Add the new ending that matches who you are talking about. You will need to
memorize these endings!
Examples: To say, “I ate”
Comer
Com
Yo comí
