(Stat Page) Rattledrake PDF

The rattledrake is a snake-like, draconic creature that hunts in the sands, preferring to ambush its prey with venom similar to wyverns. It has spiked scales that damage attackers holding it too tightly, implying it is also prey for larger creatures. As a cautious hunter, the rattledrake will stalk from a distance and use its disorienting rattle ability to test prey, carrying away any that fail the test to swallow whole. The source of the rattledrake's namesake rattle is a tail of fine bristles and scales that produces tones to induce helplessness in prey.

Rattledrake

Rattledrake
The rattledrake is a creature that is as snake-like as it is
draconic, preferring to slither through the sands or keep
itself hidden for an unexpected attack. Carrying similar
venom to their wyvern cousins, but must less aggressive,
the rattledrake is a patient hunter and much prefers to
consume its prey alive if possible. Curiously, the
rattledrake’s scales contain pressure sensitive spikes
that damage attackers that hold onto the rattledrake too
tightly – this implies that it is also the prey to something
much larger…
Cautious Hunters. Although the rattledrake isn’t as
intelligent as their true draconic counterparts, they carry
a dangerous cunning about them. They will stalk their
prey out of sight, but within earshot of their rattle, before
using their Rattle ability to test the constitution of their
prey – anything that resists the disorienting effects is
obviously too powerful and the rattledrake will slink away
to look for some easier pickings. Any poor creature that
cannot resist the Rattle is plucked into the air by the
rattledrake and carried away somewhere private so that
it can begin swallowing its prey whole, all the while
keeping the rattle going so it cannot resist.
Death Rattle. The sound for the rattledrake's
namesake rattle is produced from its unique tail.
Although it appears to be a solid fin, it is actually a
multitude of fine bristles and scales. Using an almost
vestigial breath organ, the rattledrake produces a distinct
tone that induces disorientation and essentially leaves its
prey helpless.
