This document provides an outline for a lesson on building community. It begins by asking how we build a community and provides some key points: we belong to a community and must follow rules to live together peacefully; we are responsible for the well-being and progress of our community; we can build community by being good members, participating in events, behaving honestly, helping each other, respecting each other, and considering the well-being of ourselves and neighbors. It then outlines steps for students to take to research and learn about workers and services in their own community.

How do we
build a
community?
A community is a group of people who are
connected. This group shares leaders, services,
and customs.

Workers provide goods and services to people in

the community. A construction worker,
a firefighter, and a police officer are all workers.
There are many more kinds of workers in a
community. All of the workers are community
members because their efforts make the
community a better place to live.

How do they do this? By choosing work they like

and are good at, and by giving the community
We all belong to a community, and we must follow what it needs.
certain rules to live together peacefully. We are also
all in charge of the well-being and the progress of
our community. How do we build a community?
We can do this by being good community
members, by taking part in community events,
by behaving honestly, by always helping one
another, by respecting each other, and by keeping
the well-being of ourselves and our neighbors in
mind. This may sound like a lot, but it is not at all.
Just think about what is best for you and for the
people that you care about. This is a start to making
good decisions every time!
