 EDGE LATCH CORE BARREL

Di-Corp offers both gravity and pump-in systems in double and triple tube
configurations. We have incorporated a number of product improvements to ensure 3a
you remain productive, including:

1. Edge Latch for improved locking and unlocking

2. Shielded bearing
3. Latch locking for up-hole drilling

EDGE LATCH CORE BARREL

Helps to eliminate stuck tubes and mislatches which can cause significant downtime if
you have to retrieve your drill string from the hole, which will have a significant impact
to your budget! 3b

There are just three main components, all of which

have been designed for use with the our core barrel as
well as other popular industry core barrels.

• latch (x2) 2
• latch spring

Increased leverage with improved latch design:

• the latch window maximizes the efficiency in

which the latches are pulled inward, providing a
mechanical advantage during the “unlatching” or
“unlocking” of the inner tube assembly,
• the latch retracting pin transfers the pulling force
of the latch retraction case through to the latches

Latch are able to move freely from the other:

• secure latching with both tanged and non-tanged

locking couplings

 EDGE LATCH CORE BARREL
SHIELDED BEARING

Having the upper bearing(s) protected from contamination and impact ensures the
upper portion of the head assembly can continue to rotate freely, while the inner tube
cap assembly which is connected to the inner tube stays stationary so that the core
sample is not disturbed.

LATCH LOCK MECHANISM

As an additional measure of safety, pump-in core barrels have been equipped with a
“latch lock” mechanism to prevent the latches from closing until the spearhead point is
retracted.

All components are designed to work with Di-Corp’s latching system as well as
competitors, they fit into the redundant space.

• lower spring sleeve

Reduces the chance of accidental unlatching of the inner tube:

• when latches open inside the adapter coupling the locking pin slips into the slot on
the top of the latches
• the upper spring applies pressure to the locking pin, keeping it in position
• the lower spring ensures that the latch retraction case remains in the seated
position to keep the latches fully deployed and pressed firmly against the locking
coupling

NOTE: the seat and bushing are integrated into the upper latch body for the H system.

INNER TUBE CAP THREAD PROTECTOR

Because the inner tube cap box end is extremely delicate, Di-Corp ships all head
assemblies with thread protectors installed (N2 is the exception). They can be
reinstalled when storing the assembly for future use.

 EDGE LOCK OVERSHOT

Di-Corp offers three styles of overshot. Selection depends

on the specific application the overshot will be used in.

1. Edge Lock - the overshot requires gravity to reach the

bottom of the hole to retrieve the inner tube

2. Edge Lock Rolling - wheels compensate for the decreased

angle of the hole enabling gravity to still play a role in the
overshot’s descent

3. Pump-In - the angle of the hole makes gravity counter

productive, as a result the drilling string needs to be closed
using a loading chamber, the overshot is then pumped into
position using drilling fluid

EDGE LOCK OVERSHOT

The Edge Lock Overshot eliminates the need to manually lock in the head, no fingers at risk and no need to remember.
As soon as you start to raise the overshot the weight of the head pulls the lifting dogs into the locked position. The head
remains “locked in” until the weight is removed and you manually compress the lifting dogs to release.

Di-Corp offers both gravity and pump-in systems in double and triple tube
configurations. We have incorporated a number of product improvements to ensure 3a
you remain productive, including:

EDGE LATCH CORE BARREL

Helps to eliminate stuck tubes and mislatches which can cause significant downtime if
you have to retrieve your drill string from the hole, which will have a significant impact
to your budget! 3b

There are just three main components, all of which

have been designed for use with the our core barrel
as well as other popular industry core barrels.

Increased leverage with improved latch design:

• the latch window maximizes the efficiency in

which the latches are pulled inward, providing a
mechanical advantage during the “unlatching” or
“unlocking” of the inner tube assembly,
• the latch retracting pin transfers the pulling force
of the latch retraction case through to the latches

Latch are able to move freely from the other:

• secure latching with both tanged and non-tanged

locking couplings

 EDGE LATCH CORE BARREL
SHIELDED BEARING

Having the upper bearing(s) protected from contamination and impact ensures the
upper portion of the head assembly can continue to rotate freely, while the inner
tube cap assembly which is connected to the inner tube stays stationary so that the
core sample is not disturbed.

LATCH LOCK MECHANISM

As an additional measure of safety, pump-in core barrels have been equipped with
a “latch lock” mechanism to prevent the latches from closing until the spearhead
point is retracted.

All components are designed to work with Di-Corp’s latching system as well as
competitors, they fit into the redundant space.

Reduces the chance of accidental unlatching of the inner tube:

• when latches open inside the adapter coupling the locking pin slips into the
slot on the top of the latches
• the upper spring applies pressure to the locking pin, keeping it in position
• the lower spring ensures that the latch retraction case remains in the seated
position to keep the latches fully deployed and pressed firmly against the
locking coupling

NOTE: the seat and bushing are integrated into the upper latch body for the H
system.

INNER TUBE CAP THREAD PROTECTOR

Because the inner tube cap box end is extremely delicate, Di-Corp ships all head
assemblies with thread protectors installed (N2 is the exception). They can be
reinstalled when storing the assembly for future use.

 EDGE LOCK OVERSHOT

Di-Corp offers three styles of overshot. Selection depends

on the specific application the overshot will be used in.

1. Edge Lock - the overshot requires gravity to reach the

bottom of the hole to retrieve the inner tube

2. Edge Lock Rolling - wheels compensate for the decreased

angle of the hole enabling gravity to still play a role in the
overshot’s descent

3. Pump-In - the angle of the hole makes gravity counter

productive, as a result the drilling string needs to be closed
using a loading chamber, the overshot is then pumped into
position using drilling fluid

EDGE LOCK OVERSHOT

The Edge Lock Overshot eliminates the need to manually lock in the head, no fingers at risk and no need to remember.
As soon as you start to raise the overshot the weight of the head pulls the lifting dogs into the locked position. The head
remains “locked in” until the weight is removed and you manually compress the lifting dogs to release.

Di-Corp offers both gravity and pump-in systems in double and triple tube
configurations. We have incorporated a number of product improvements to ensure 3a
you remain productive, including:

1. Edge Latch for improved locking and unlocking

EDGE LATCH CORE BARREL

Helps to eliminate stuck tubes and mislatches which can cause significant downtime if
you have to retrieve your drill string from the hole, which will have a significant impact
to your budget! 3b

There are just three main components, all of which

have been designed for use with the our core barrel as
well as other popular industry core barrels.

• latch (x2) 2
• latch spring

Increased leverage with improved latch design:

• the latch window maximizes the efficiency in

which the latches are pulled inward, providing a
mechanical advantage during the “unlatching” or
“unlocking” of the inner tube assembly,
• the latch retracting pin transfers the pulling force
of the latch retraction case through to the latches

Latch are able to move freely from the other:

• secure latching with both tanged and non-tanged

locking couplings

SHIELDED BEARING

Having the upper bearing(s) protected from contamination and impact ensures the
upper portion of the head assembly can continue to rotate freely, while the inner tube
cap assembly which is connected to the inner tube stays stationary so that the core
sample is not disturbed.

LATCH LOCK MECHANISM

As an additional measure of safety, pump-in core barrels have been equipped with a
“latch lock” mechanism to prevent the latches from closing until the spearhead point is
retracted.

All components are designed to work with Di-Corp’s latching system as well as
competitors, they fit into the redundant space.

• lower spring sleeve

Reduces the chance of accidental unlatching of the inner tube:

• when latches open inside the adapter coupling the locking pin slips into the slot on
the top of the latches
• the upper spring applies pressure to the locking pin, keeping it in position
• the lower spring ensures that the latch retraction case remains in the seated
position to keep the latches fully deployed and pressed firmly against the locking
coupling

NOTE: the seat and bushing are integrated into the upper latch body for the H system.

INNER TUBE CAP THREAD PROTECTOR

Because the inner tube cap box end is extremely delicate, Di-Corp ships all head
assemblies with thread protectors installed (N2 is the exception). They can be
reinstalled when storing the assembly for future use.

 EDGE LOCK OVERSHOT

Di-Corp offers three styles of overshot. Selection depends

on the specific application the overshot will be used in.

1. Edge Lock - the overshot requires gravity to reach the

bottom of the hole to retrieve the inner tube

2. Edge Lock Rolling - wheels compensate for the decreased

angle of the hole enabling gravity to still play a role in the
overshot’s descent

3. Pump-In - the angle of the hole makes gravity counter

productive, as a result the drilling string needs to be closed
using a loading chamber, the overshot is then pumped into
position using drilling fluid

EDGE LOCK OVERSHOT

The Edge Lock Overshot eliminates the need to manually lock in the head, no fingers at risk and no need to remember.
As soon as you start to raise the overshot the weight of the head pulls the lifting dogs into the locked position. The head
remains “locked in” until the weight is removed and you manually compress the lifting dogs to release.

CORE BARREL OPTIONAL COMPONENTS

Locking Couplings

• conventional locking couplings offer superior fluid flow and are installed as standard in all Di-Corp core barrel
assemblies
• full hole locking couplings offer increased contact area with the hole wall for stabilization
• drilling fluid does most of the work, but a tang option on the locking coupling will help to ensure the upper head
assembly continues to spin with the rod string — available on both conventional and full hole locking couplings

Core Lifters

• slotted core lifters are installed as standard in all head assemblies with the exception of triple tubes. It is an excellent
general purpose core lifter with a good grip area for the core
• fluted core lifters have increased flexibility and are best for broken ground conditions. They are installed in all Di-Corp
triple tube core barrel systems
• smooth core lifters are more rigid and have a full contact area. They are ideal for ultra hard, competent core retrieval
• all three core lifters types mentioned above are available with a diamond coat option. This provides superior wear
resistance over the standard heat treatment for increased strength

Landing Indication

The head assembly has landing indication installed as standard. The installed version
uses a moderate pressure bushing which can be easily identified by a groove on the
outer diameter. LI Ball

An optional bushing without the groove is available, it requires increased pressure to

push the ball through, equating to an even bigger spike on the pressure gauge. This
bushing would be used in deeper holes.

As the name indicates, this is used to tell the operator that the assembly has landed.
This is accomplished through a series of chain reactions - if the decent of the inner
LI Bushing
tube assembly is halted as a result of landing at the bottom of the hole (or possible
with Groove
other issue) the regular path of the drilling fluid becomes closed. This causes the fluid
pressure to build above the upper latch body which in turn forces the Landing Indicator
stainless steel ball through the Landing Indicator bushing located in the top of the lower
latch body. The driller watches for this build up on his pressure gauge to indicate that
the inner tube has landed.

NOTE: Landing indication must be reset after each use by popping the ball back
through the bushing or slow descent times may result. If you do not wish to use landing
indication the ball and bushing can be removed. Optional LI Bushing

Fluid Retention Kit

If drilling in ground conditions where the loss of costly drilling fluids becomes a
problem, it may be necessary to replace the Landing Indication components with
optional Fluid Retention parts which act like a check valve to maintain a column of fluid
in the drill string. The components come as a kit and include a ball, a standard bushing,
a high-flow bushing and three springs of various grades (light, medium and heavy)
which are interchangeable depending on the rate of flow desired.

Core Block Alert - Shut Off Valves

Di-Corp supplies all core barrels with hard shut off valves. When the inner tube is full
or if a core block occurs, these valves become compressed resulting in the drilling fluid
being cut off. This will show on the pressure gauge on surface and will alert the driller
that the inner tube is full or of a potential problem down the hole.

The position of the steel washers also play a role. For example, the standard setup is
shown on the top right but the washers can be repositioned to the top and bottom of
the hard shut off valves for softer formations - less upward force is required to compress
the washers.

Optional soft shut off valves are available for use in conditions where the driller needs
more feedback on what is happening down the hole.

Chrome Plating

To increase the life of the inner and outer tubes, an optional wear resistance coating is
available:

• full length on the inside diameter of an inner tube

• 45 cm (18 in) on the outer diameter of the box and pin ends of an outer tube

Extended Core Barrels

In consolidated ground conditions, a core barrel assembly can be extended in order to

double or even triple a core run - from 1.5 m (5 ft) to 4.5 m (15 ft), or 3.0 m (10 ft) to 6.0
m (20 ft) lengths. This can increase your productivity significantly.

Example:

To assemble a 6.0 m (20 ft) core barrel, use a 3.0 m (10 ft) core barrel assembly plus the
following:

• 1 outer tube 3.0 m (10 ft)

• 1 inner tube 3.0 m (10 ft)
• 1 inner tube stabilizer
• 1 inner tube coupling

NOTE: It is recommended to use a stabilized reaming shell if extending the core barrel,
see the core barrel options page for your selection.
