PART 1:
Narrator: This is a story about the Nightingale who helped an Emperor. The famous Emperor
owned the most beautiful palace in the world with a very pretty garden. The garden was so big
that it extended up to the forest and down to the sea and sheltered many animals including the
Nightingale.
Nightingale: (Enters the forest and starts singing or humming while she’s flying around and
then settled at the corner and continued singing.)
(John and Sapphire will enter the forest. They will hear the nightingale singing. They will look for
it, once they find it they will watch it in admiration.)
Sapphire: I don’t know. But it sings so well! (Look for the source of sound and spot the
nightingale) Oh, look at that!
John: (Looking shocked) Oh!! It’s the nightingale! She sounds so lovely!
(Joh and Sapphire sits down while the Nightingale continue to sing until they are well rested.
Nightingale, and visitors will exit after. Narrator will enter)
Narrator: The travelers are not the last to listen to the nightingale's beautiful singing. The news
spread about her soothing voice that at last the Emperor learned about the nightingale. But he
was baffled that no one in the palace knows about it.
Marcini: (In a hurry, almost running towards the emperor then stop in front of the emperor
trying to catch his breath before it bows.) Your Majesty! There are lots of travelers looking for
the nightingale!
Emperor: What Nightingale?
Marcini: It's the bird living in your garden, your majesty. And it sings well!
Emperor: (Looking puzzled) I don’t know that at all! And such bird is living in my empire’s
garden without my knowledge? I command that he shall appear this evening and sing before
me!
Marcini: Yes, your majesty. (Bows in front of the emperor before it leaves to look for the
nightingale.)
PART 2:
Narrator: Marcini started searching for the nightingale because even he, don’t know where to
find it. He has not heard of it either along with the people in the palace. He searched and asked
the people around and found out that almost everyone know the nightingale.
Heidi: (Excited and happy to help.) Yes, I know! It sings so well that when it sings, it is as if my
mother kissed me!
Heidi: Yes! She lives down the stream. (The little girl and the guard will walk to the side where
the nightingale is resting while it sings.) Little nightingale, our gracious emperor wishes you to
sing before him.
Nightingale: (Started humming, then look at the little girl.) But my song sounds best in the
forest.
Guard: Please, little nightingale! Sing for the emperor. (The guard plead, and the nightingale
went with them.)
Nightingale: (Still humming) Its among the trees. But anyway, let’s go to the forest.
PART 3:
Narrator: When the Nightingale reached the palace, she was welcomed with thousands of
golden lamps. She was placed in a golden perched located in the great hall. The guards and
ladies are dressed in fancy clothes as they listen to her songs. Everybody’s eyes were turned
towards the nightingale.
(Narrator will exit; the Emperor is sitting listening as the nightingale sings. John and Sapphire
are among the guest while Heidi is far behind watching.)
Emperor: (Very impressed) That is so wonderful! You should leave here with me.
Nightingale: (Suddenly stops singing and looks at the emperor in shock) But… that would not be
fun. I thought… (Start singing a bit sadly.)
Marcini: (Walk towards the guard holding out a box mark. He bows to the emperor and handed
a box.) Your, majesty.
Emperor: Is this a gift for the nightingale? (He opens the gift and found an artificial nightingale.
He was happy.)
PART 4:
Narrator: Six years went by. The emperor grew ill and could not stand. He lay on his bed and
could hardly breathe as death and other ghost are looking at him haunting his thoughts. They
were the emperor’s bad and good deeds.
(Emperor seating/lying on his bed, looking ill and weak. Death and ghost in black clothing are
around him.)
Emperor: (In a weak voice) Music! I don’t want to hear what they say! You, little precious bird,
sing! Sing for me! PLEASE! Sing for me!!
Nightingale: I have heard that you are ill. And I came to bring you comfort.
(The nightingale will then come near the emperor and will start singing. The ghosts and death
will eventually go once the nightingale sings. Once death and the ghost are gone, the emperor
will smile.)
Emperor: Thank you! How can I reward you? Please, always stay with me!
Nightingale: Please, no. I can’t build my nest in the palace, but I will always visit and sing for
you. I will sing to you all the good and bad things around the palace. But promise me one
thing…
Nightingale: One thing, only. Please, tell no one that I tell you everything. (The nightingale will
now fly away.)
Emperor: Yes! (Smile, and look as the guard enter the chamber, and greets them.) Good
morning!
Narrator: From then on, the nightingale visits the emperor every night, and sings for him
without anyone knowing for many years. The emperor grew even more stronger, and the
nightingale stayed happy and free. The end. (Everyone will now stand in the front and will bow
together.)
