Psicothema is adopting the APA 7th edition style guidelines for manuscripts submitted from January 2020 onwards. The summary provides 4 key changes to in-text citations, references, DOIs, and URLs according to the new APA style. Citations for works with 3 or more authors will now include only the first author and "et al.", publisher locations are excluded, up to 20 author surnames and initials can be included in references, and DOIs and URLs are formatted differently.

Dear colleagues,

Psicothema is addressing APA 7th Edition guidelines since January 2020. We are looking
forward to receiving manuscripts in the new APA style and so we would like to provide a brief
summary with some paper submission guidelines in the new style.

Psicothema Editorial Board

1. The in-text citation for works with three or more authors is now shortened right
from the first citation. You only include the first author’s name and “et al.”

BEFORE: (Taylor, Simon, & Parker, 2018)

CURRENTLY: (Taylor et al., 2018)

2. The publisher location is no longer included in the reference.

3. Surnames and initials for up to 20 authors (instead of 7) should be provided in the


reference list.

DOIs are formatted the same as URLs. The label “DOI:” is no longer necessary.

4. URLs are no longer preceded by “Retrieved from,” unless a retrieval date is needed.
The website name is included (unless it’s the same as the author), and web page
titles are italicized.
