Strand Gender Time Finished (In Minutes) Times Joined A Fun Run Enjoymen T Experience

1. A sample of 30 students had an average time of 55.77 minutes to finish a 5km fun run. Using a 1% level of significance, a z-test found that this average time was not statistically different from the committee's claim of an average time of 53 minutes. 2. A test of proportions looked at enjoyment ratings of fun runs for 9 male and 21 female students. With a 5% level of significance, there was no statistical difference found between the proportion of males who enjoyed it (4/9) and females (9/21). This failed to support the committee's claim that a greater proportion of males enjoyed the fun run.

Part I.

Samples (Systematic Sampling)

We got our samples through using Systematic Sampling. Systematic sampling involves
selection of every nth (ex. 5th) subject in the population to be in the sample. We used every 6 th
element of the population to arrive at 30 samples.

Part II. Statistical Test

1. A committee of the LPU Fun Run said that the average time that a student can
accomplish the 5 km run is 53 minutes with a standard deviation of 16 minutes. A
sample of 30 students having an average of __55.77__ minutes in accomplishing the 5
km run is tested to see if the claim of the committee is true. Use a 1% level of
significance.
Step 1:
Ho :  μ = 53
H1 : μ ≠ 53
Step 2:

a. ∝or 1%
b. Two Tailed Test
c. One Population Z – Test
Step 3: Decision Rule

If | Zc | ≥ 2.58 , Reject Ho
If | Zc | < 2.58 , Failed to Reject Ho

Step 4: Computation
x−μ
x = 55.77 n = 30 Formula: Zc = σ
√n
μ = 53 σ = 16

55.77−53
Zc = 16 = 0.95
√30
Step 5: Conclusion
Failed to Reject Ho
The average time that a student can accomplish the 5 km run is 53 minutes.
2. The committee of the LPU Fun Run claimed that the proportion of male students who
enjoyed the fun run is greater than the proportion of female students who enjoyed the
fun run. From the ratings that the students answered, they classified it as having a rate
of 4 and 5 means that they enjoyed the event and having a rate of 3 and below means
otherwise. Out of __9__ male respondents, __4__ enjoyed the fun run and out of
__21__ female respondents, __9__ enjoyed the fun run. Test the hypothesis at 5% level
of significance.
Step 1:

Ho :   P1=P2

H1 : P 1 > P 2

Step 2:

a. ∝or 5%
b. One Tailed Test
c. Z – Test of Proportion
Step 3: Decision Rule

If | Zc | ≥ 1.645 , Reject Ho
If | Zc | < 1.645 , Failed to Reject Ho

Step 4: Computation
P 1−P2
4 9
P1 = 9 P2 = 21 Formula: Zc = P1 q1 P2 q2
√ n1
+
n2

5 4
q1 = 9 q2 = 7

n1 = 9 n2 = 21

4 9

9 21
Zc =
( 49 )( 59 ) + ( 219 )( 74 ) = 0.08
√ 9 21
Step 5: Conclusion:

Failed to Reject Ho
The proportion of male students who enjoyed the fun run is equal to the proportion of
female students who enjoyed the fun run
