1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
Anmol Piling & Steel Structures LLC. have prepared the present document concerning the
project of the Malaysia Pavilion Dubai 2020 to provide below ground area shoring for the
preparation and construction of basement structure.
This preliminary design report presents the design parameters, design criteria and
methodologies proposed to be adopted for the structural design of temporary retaining
wall.
1.2 Scope
The scope includes the design of the temporary retaining wall (KING POST SHORING) while
construction of basement structure work proceeded.

3 MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Concrete
Concrete Panel
Concrete Class 25
Modulus of Elasticity = 25000 MPa.
Characteristic compressive strenth @ 28 days: fcu = 25 MPa.
Steel Bars
Young Modulus = 200000 MPa.
Design Strength py: = 460 MPa.

4 OTHER DESIGN PARAMETERS
The data of soil and recommendation provided by Technical Laboratory for Matrix Laboratory LLC.,
Report No.: XSD/15-0143, Dated September 15, 2015 will be used and modeled in the design with
respect to our desk study for the parameters of soil.
Geotechnical borings drilled inside the site indicates that the subsurface stratigraphy is relatively
uniform.
Soil properties of individual layes for the design are shown on the table below:
Table 1. NEAREST BOREHOLE BH-B25
PAGE #4/29
4.2 Loads Type Acting on Wall
Design surcharge applied at empty plot is 20 kN/m2 and to be set at Existing Ground Level.
PAGE #5/29
4.4 Design of Retaining Wall
The earth pressure coefficients are based on Coulomb for the at-rest, active and passive states and
the method used and choose the depth of embedment with partial factor is a Strength Factor
Method. Horizontal earth pressures for the stabilty analysis are obtained from Reward Analysis
program.
The stabilty for Factor Safety is 1.5 is used to determine the critical embedment length.
DESIGN OF CANTILEVER KING POST PILE SHORING FOR MAXIMUM EXCAVATION LEVEL OF -
CASE 1:
5.00m FROM EGL. +0.00m.
Cantilever king post shoring was adopted as the most cost-effective solution for this boundary. This
wall consist of steel section UB 457x191x74 kg/m or equivalent section with 4.00 meter embedment
depth below bulk excavation level to accommodate the lateral pressure by soil and surcharge loading.
Table 2.
Bending Moment, Shear Force & Deflection of individual sections for the design are shown on the
table below:
The Factor of Safety produced and resulted in The Reward Analysis is equal to SF= 677%,
therefore the embedment length is suitable for the excavation depth.
