Answer:
The role of IS in this globalized and highly competitive business environment is significant. IS
helps an organization to become more productive, improves managerial decision making,
enhances customer experience, production output, internal and external communication
system. Moreover, it assists to increase performance of the organization and reduces cost
which leads to increased revenue with less expense.
Decision making and data analysis is much unexacting. Business operations are run much
trouble-free and surpassed way. IT plays a significant role for business organizations, enabling
them to:
a) Make strategic and quick decision making
b) Breaking communication barrier
c) Data analysis and storage
d) Archival of a vast amount of data
e) Ensuring operational excellence
f) Delivers information to the respective department
g) Assists in strategic planning
h) Increase efficiency
Example: MGH Group, a group of companies is successfully running its verticals in 17 different
countries i.e. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia etc. can take quick
decision when needed with proper IT support.

IS creates globalization opportunities for business organizations and accords


competitive advantage. The usage of internet has reduced the cost of operating
business offshore and within the country. Moreover, foreign markets are easily utilized
due to installation of IS in organizations, such as EBAY, Google etc. The service is
replicated without any hurdle. Furthermore, strategic decision making is now
expenditure due to the blessings of IS. Quick witted decisions regarding operations can
be made without any delay due to IS. In addition, IS enables business organization to
adopt flexible arrangements of clerks and management that can operate and co-
ordinate with other business organizations across.

2. Helps with emerging Digital Firms:

Digital firms offer greater flexibilities in whole management system, such as time
shifting, space shifting. Convergence of technologies is brought about by the internet.
The relationship in digital firms are digitally enabled. The core business activities and
processes, relationships with suppliers, employees and customers, stakeholders external
and internal are digitally enabled.

Example: A few years back, when there was no E-Banking system, people had to do all
the transactions by physically going to the bank. But now, people can do transactions
easily with debit and credit cards and E-banking facility. Semester fees of universities
can be given easily with the E-banking system. This saves time, cost and ensures better
and quick service.

IS enables businesses to have the most effective solutions in a competitive situation.


Organizations can deliver better performance responding consumers in the quickest
time possible, charging less compared to other organizations for superior products.
