ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
INTRODUCTION:
PRACTICUM period gave me an opportunity to get an insight of the professional environment and helped me to link
my design ideas with the construction techniques, client‟s requirement , economical constraints and other factors. It
also helped me to develop research skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills as well as computer skills.
So I would like to express my deep and sincere gratitude to everyone who has given me this opportunity to know
the field of architecture better. First of all I would like to thank Ar. PRAJWAL HADA for accepting me as a trainee
in his firm. It was a great opportunity to assist him in variety of projects. His wide knowledge and logical thinking
have been of great value for me. His personal guidance and suggestion were very substantical during this practi-
cum period. I would also like to thank the team PRAJWAL HADA „N‟ ASSOCIATES and my trainee colleagues for
their continous guidance , support and suggestion. Their kind cooperation has been really appreciable and admira-
ble for strengthening my practical knowledge.
I would also like to extend my gratification to my practicum supervisor Ar. Suman Nanda Vaidya and Ar. Dan Hee-
ra Kansakar for their valuable suggestions in preparing this report.
Finally I acknowledge and thank all my respected teachers for making me capable to be a trainee architect.

INTRO
Architecture is a not only a creative but also a practical subject . Thus an architecture student needs strong theoretical founda-
tion with enhanced practical skills . PRACTICUM, specified as a part of curriculum prescribed by the TRIBHUVAN UNIVERSITY
wherein students are required to gain practical experience by working as a trainee in an architectural firm. In this period, stu-
dent learns to utilize his skills, implement the theoretical knowledge for professional endeavor. During this semester we stu-
dents are required to register ourselves as a trainee to assist architects in an architectural firm. So that we are aware of live
problem area and could define the additional needs better. It also helps to build up relation with professionals. It is a full
phase chance to interact with the society , professionals and constraints
Practicum period gave me a chance to break beyond the theoretical knowledge and gave opportunity to learn the practical
side of profession. As it is said a good design is the combination of theory and practice, thus it is indeed an opportunity for us
to develop oneself as a better designer.
Creative ideas and design works will not be fulfilled unless it is constructed on the site. Thus practicum also helps to develop the
overall ability of a student and come to grip the realistic side of architectural profession . here we not only gain the practical
knowledge but also learn about the problem occurred in different fields which helps to develop confidence and identify and
analyse the real problem and help to develop design methodologies..
During this period we were required to maintain LOGBOOK mentioning works done in the firm every day and prepare a final
report of works carried out mentioning ones involvements and achievements in the project. This practicum report reflects my
experience as a trainee architect for over 90days on the various projects aiming to develop practical knowledge on the archi-
tectural field. It can also be referred as a documentation of my final work at PRAJWAL HADA N ASSOCIATES which contains
projects done from 17th January to 28th April .
During my involvement in the firm I was involved in various projects such as conceptual design phases, site supervision and
management, furniture drawings, estimation, graphics design ,3d modeling etc. This report contains all the works that I under-
took during my training period in the firm.
As for the Chief Architect himself, he is the graduate from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh. He is hard
working and meticulous in his work, his stature in the field of architecture is unprecedented. In my view he is struggling as well as success-
ful competitor in current architecture scenario of Nepal and has been able to well establish his own individual style in Contemporary Ne-
palese architecture .

plans and sketches and makes them presentable to convey his theme to the client . if there area nay changes to be made in the de-
sign, client is allowed to do it during the presentation. He also directly supervises the progress and guides to staff. This system
makes the staff responsible for their work.
PHASE I: Firstly after the contract is accepted , site visit is the intial steps, which include survey and collection of data. Rough
estimate and inception report are also prepared as per the requirement . topographical and climatologically study of the
site is also done.
PHASE II: In the intial meetings with the client. Ar. PRAJWAL HADA clarifies the requirements and desire of the client . then
he prepares the conceptual sketches , exploring the various approaches and possibilities of design , yet fulfilling the re-

PHASE III: After frequent discussion with the client , the design comes to finalization. Necessary drawings are prepared in-
cluding the plans , elevation and section after architectural drawings are finalized , structural drawings are prepared under
the guidance of Er. NASHILA SHRESTHA
PHASE IV: After the design is finalized , detailed working drawing are prepared through frequent discussion with the struc-
tural , electrical and sanitary engineers. Also detailed estimation and specification are prepared.

After that, the false ceiling installation process begins and the design can also be changed ac-
cordingly.
The electrical points or ductwork if any shall be placed before installing the main gypsum
board
Now the false ceiling completes with mounting gypsum board and with some finishings putty

CONCLUSION
During my practicum period I was involved in various types of projects which made me to understand different projects
differently as per their nature. The small projects like leaflet design gave me idea in how minute details we architects
can design by designing a leaflet for building. Likewise, the project of elevation design improve my visualization skills
and site visits made me more observant in details.
More over I was mostly involved with finishing works in site ,it‟s design , drafting and it‟s implementation. My involvement
in site works enhanced my management skills on the way to implement what I was designing. As an architect it‟s neces-
sary to know what you are designing and most importantly how you are going to materialize your concept into reality..
The regular meetings with client gave me opportunity to understand the perception and psychology of client along with
improvement in interpersonal skills. For architecture there is no pleasure so great than seeing one of your design standing
and in use. My involvement in site works gave me this opportunity
No doubt design studio and classroom education gave us a base but practicum gave me an opportunity to broaden my
knowledge that couldn‟t be imparted in the classrooms and design studios. Besides enhancing my efficiency it also devel-
oped computer skills and presentation techniques. Practicum taught me the team spirit of working in coordination with dif-
ferent personals. It fostered my confidence by teaching me whole design process up to its implementation from concept
to a reality.
Hence practicum period is a medium which enhance a deeper understanding of architectural practice which help us to
prepare ourselves to handle any challenge , likely to encounter during our professional career more tactfully and wisely.
In conclusion, the practicum period surely abridged the gap engulfed between the theoretical knowledge and practical
knowledge.
