New Features: 5L-E Engine 1. General

The new Hiace van features include a new J5L-E engine that meets European emission regulations. It is a 4-cylinder inline engine that is electronically fuel injected and uses an EGR system and catalytic converter to reduce emissions. The engine produces 66kw of power at 4000rpm and 192Nm of torque at 2400rpm, which is an improvement over the previous 5L engine. The new engine also has a higher compression ratio and improved valve timing for better performance and drivability.

J5L-E ENGINE
1. General
This engine is based on the 5L engine that is equipped on the previous model. To realize cleaner emis-
sions, improved drivability, and reduced vibration, the following features have been adopted:
1) Diesel EFI system
2) EGR system with valve position sensor and catalytic converter for oxidation
(meets the European STEP III regulation requirements)
3) Intake Restrictor Control
