Booting Into Safemode

To boot a computer into safe mode: 1. When the black Starting Windows bar appears at startup, press F8 to access the Windows Advanced Options menu. Select Safe Mode from the options and press Enter to boot into safe mode. 2. Once booted, open the Device Manager by going to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Expand the Network Adapters section to view network device properties and see that no drivers are installed in safe mode. 3. Safe mode starts Windows with minimum drivers and services to allow troubleshooting of problems caused by faulty drivers or system files.

Step 1 Description
#1 video 1 Power on the Computer, when the black Starting Windows bar appears
at the bottom of the screen, press F8.
#2 video 1 The Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu will have a list of options
to choose from. Use the up and down arrows to navigate Safe Mode
and press Enter. Windows will now startup in Safe Mode.
Step 2
#3 video 2 When Windows boots up a warning will appear. Read the warning and
click OK.
#4 video 2 Click Start, Control Panel and double-click the System icon. After
the System Properties window opens click the Hardware tab and then
click the Device Manger button in the middle of the window.

#5 video 2 Next to Network adapters click the ( + ) to expand the submenu. Find
the adapter you want to want to view and right-click the adapter and
left-click Properties.

#6 video 2 Notice there are no drivers installed for the networking device, when
booting into Safe Mode.
