SS033 A2

The document discusses whether geopolitical boundaries and physical barriers will still be relevant in the future given the increasing nature of globalization. It argues that as interdependence among countries grows due to advancing technology, these boundaries may become irrelevant over time. While new ideologies emerging could impact globalization positively or negatively, technological developments have already enabled greater communication and information sharing worldwide. Examples like improved relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia show how conflicts over borders can be resolved through open communication. However, completely removing the relevance of geopolitical boundaries and physical borders will still take time to achieve.

LLENA, PAULINE G.

A67/AR-2
SS033 ASSIGNMENT #2

Do you think geopolitical boundaries and physical barriers will still be relevant in the future
given the nature and structure of Globalization?

No, I personally think it is possible that these aspects (geopolitical boundaries and
physical barriers) will be irrelevant in the future. As per the meaning of globalization, the
interdependence among countries is continually growing, surpassing the bounds of the
physical world through the advent of technology. It is noticeable how progressive the world’s
society is today than it was before. Therefore, it is not far fetch that they will cease to exist in
the future. Nonetheless, there are various factors that may contribute to this along with
probability that new boundaries may arise.

The technological age plays a substantial role in the communication systems which
enable the broad dissemination of information worldwide. Because of this “the world has
experienced phenomenal growth of a network” said user, Hydrabern (2020). It might even
increase the level of understanding and predictability between diplomatic relations which
could bring about positive light in various conflict resolutions. The Eritrea-Ethopia have been
in conflict for over a decade regarding their border which divided populations, resources, and
many more (Megoran, 2019). But in 2018, newly-inaugurated prime minister Abiy Ahmed
with his campaign for peaceful communication, moved rapidly to improve relations with
Eritrea signing a peace accord with the Eritrean government which formally ended the war
(Megoran, 2019).

However, it must be noted that new ideologies could also influence globalization which
can either be beneficial or destructive to its essence. It could be a new approach to solve
conflicts which might be questionable in terms of its execution or would put countries to a
mutual advantage. Even so, it will take time for geopolitical boundaries and physical borders
to be completely irrelevant. But it does not mean that it is impossible to achieve that state of
globalization. With how progressive we are today, the irrelevancy of those aspects is not out
of reach.
