Chapter 3

This chapter outlines the research methodology used in the study. A descriptive survey method was used to determine the profile of Bachelor of Science in Office Administration students. The respondents were 100 randomly selected students from Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. Questionnaires were used to collect data on the students' personal profiles and computer literacy levels. Statistical analysis including percentages and weighted means were used to analyze the data.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the discussion of the methods, approaches and procedure

which are employed in this study. It discusses the research design, sources of data,

respondents of the study, research instruments, and data gathering procedures and the

data analysis.

Research Method

The researchers used of descriptive survey method since the objective of the

study to determine the Profile of the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration

Students. This method furnishes well-classified information and it gives research

adequate chance to interpret the fact gathered. Furthermore, for purposes of acquiring

consistent and precise information close ended questionnaire.

Respondents

Respolndents of the total students taking up Bachelor of Science in Office

Administration in Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. The sample technique used was

Random Sampling, where the researchers only choose the number of respondents who

will be going to answer the questionnaire.

Office Administration students Number of Students Percentage
BSOA 1nd year
BSOA 2rd year
BSOA 3th year
Total 100 100%

Data Gathering Tool

This study used the questionnaire checklist as the main data-gathering

instruments. Unstructured interview is also utilized to counter check the answers in the

questionnaire.

Questionnaire

The questionnaire is a structured instrument which consist a set of questions (or

items) in which the questions and in most cases, the response alternative is

predetermined (Polit, 1999). The research instrument is finally accomplished after

several revisions. Other sources of data are the different studies similar/related to this

research. The researches made questionnaires to procure responses for every

statement. They also refer to certain authorities and previously made questionnaires

similarity pertinent to the study that serve as guide. The questionnaire is consisted of

two (2) parts. The first part deals with the personal profile and the second, with the level

of literacy by the students of CSPC in computer operation.

Preparation of the Questionnaire

In preparing the questionnaire, the researchers gathered information from sources

related with the present study, the researchers used the information as basis in the

preparation of the questionnaire. The questionnaire was submitted to the adviser for

comments and suggestions.

Validation of Questionnaire

For the validation of the questionnaire, the researchers made a draft of the

questionnaire submitted to the research adviser for review and suggestions, Loopholes,

vagueness, and ambiguity in the questionnaire are corrected to enhance the validity of

the questionnaire. Then, the final copies are reproduced for the respondents to answer.

Administration and Retrieval of Questionnaire

The instrument were administered and retrieved through the help of some friends who

served as key persons who have direct access to the respondents in this study. The

researchers are the ones who personally dispense the questionnaires and explained the

purpose. Immediate retrieval of the questionnaires was done when the respondents are

done answering.

Documentary Analysis

A documentary analysis was done to gather information from dean’s office to secure the

list of the students has undergone office practicum, record of different offices also name

of supervisors.

Statistical Tools
The data gathered from the questionnaire were organized, tabulated, treated

statistically analyzed and interpreted in accordance with the purpose of this study.

Specific statistical tools have been employed to treat analyze and interpret the problems

presented. In order to interpret the data on the profile of the respondents, the

percentage technique was used. The formula shown below is used as statistical

treatment of the study

Percentage Technique

This technique was used to determine the percentage or proposition of the responders.

The formula is shown below:

n
P= × 100
N

Where:

P = Percentage

n = number of responses

N = number of respondents

Weighted Mean
The nominal data in this research is composed of the raw counts of the frequencies of

occurrence of the characteristics under consideration. Weighted mean for the level of

the respondents’ computer literacy. The formula is presented below.

TWF
WM=
N

Where:

WM = Weighted Mean Rating

TWF = Total weighted Frequency

N = Number of items in each Literacy

The following four-point scale was used to describe the level of computer literacy

of the respondents:

Scale Range Verbal Interpretation

4 3.50 – 4.00 Highly Prepared

3 2.50 – 3.49 Prepared

2 1.50 – 2.49 Slightly Prepared

1 1.00 – 1.49 Not Prepared
