Abstract

This document discusses how ecologists use survivorship curves and life tables to study population growth and visualize how the number of individuals in a population changes over time. Researchers analyzed data collected from cemeteries to construct life tables and survivorship curves, which provided calculations of age of death and life expectancy. They were also able to determine trends shown in the survivorship curves.

ABSTRACT

In the study of population growth, the formulation of life tables which are partnered with

survivorship curves are made in order to have a better understanding with regards to the

collated data, Ecologists use survivorship curves in order to visualize how the number of

individuals in a population drops off with time along with its trends. This research aims to

provide analysis and graphical representation of the collated data with the aid of different

statistical tools, researchers learned the basics of population ecology using the data gathered

from the cemeteries visited. The researchers were able to provide calculation with regards to

the age at death of people, wherein it was the basis of the construction of a life table and

survivorship curve and the values for life expectancy. Furthermore, trends with the survivorship

curves were determined and explained by the researchers.
