1 SCOPE AND PURPOSE
1.1 This procedure is written to provide visual examination methods and requirements for
piping components which are fabricated in compliance with the requirements of
European Codes & Standards (eg. EN 1090, EN 3834, EN 5817...etc)
1.2 This procedure shall be used in conjunction with applicable documents as listed in
Section 3.
2 APPLICATION
This procedure covers the direct and remote visual examination methods on welds of piping
and their supports before, during or after welding and hydrostatic test. But it does not cover
other visual examination required on nondestructive examinations
3 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
4 RESPONSIBLITIES
4.1 The NDE level - I (EN 9712) shall conduct the test under the supervision of certified
NDE level -II (EN 9712 ) and he shall prepare the Visual Inspection Test report in
accordance with this procedure, drawings, specifications.
4.2 The NDE level - II shall interpret or evaluate the test results.
4.3 The Q.C Chief shall approve the Visual Inspection Test report.
4.4 The Q.C Manager shall be responsible for procedure qualification in accordance with
this procedure, and shall review the Visual Inspection Test report.
5 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
3) Liquid materials, such as; oil, grease, paint, etc. shall be cleaned with cloth or
Paper towel,
4) Solid materials such as weld spatter, heavy rust, scale, etc. shall be removed
By suitable hand tools (wire brush, flat chisel, grinder, etc.),
5) The inside diameter of piping components to be joined shall be aligned
accurately as is practical. Internal misalignment shall not exceed 2.0 mm,
unless internally trimmed,
6) Tack welds to be incorporated into the final welds shall be visually checked to
assure their contour will permit fusion into the root pass.

7 NONCONFORMANCE
8.1 After satisfactorily completion of the examination, the Visual Examiner performing
exam shall
prepare the Visual Examination Report, if required.
8.2 The examination reports shall be reviewed and approved by the QC Supervisor.
9 RE-EXAMINATION
9.1 Repaired welds shall be visually re-examined in accordance with the procedure.
9.2 If the surface of the weld requires grinding to meet the above acceptance criteria, re-
examination shall include thickness check whether or not the weld or base material is
reduced below the required minimum thickness.
