After changing setting, click “Power on this Virtual Machine”. After that you will see a dialog box
that contains “if you don’t know, answer “I copied it”. So we just click on “I Copied It”.
This is the screen after you click “I Copied It’. So from now on, we just need to find the IP
Address of this Virtual Machine where Synology DSM installed. We can find Synology’s device
IP with Synology Web Assistance & Synology Assistant (like IP Scanning tools but this only
scan for Synology Device.)
Please open the Browser and type find.synology in search bar. (Sometimes it may take up to 3 or
4 times to see this DiskStation. Below picture is how you will see if you find Synology NAS in
your Network.
Here my IP Address is 192.168.99.254/24. Status is in Ready state. We will configure from web
console by using this IP Address otherwise just click “Connect”.
First of all, we will set up Administrator Account. After that, Click Next.
For this Lab, we are doing RAID 1. (We recommend to do RAID 5 or 6 for disk failover and
data redundancy.)
By dragging Disks to RAID Group, it will create and then next. If warning box occurs, click Ok.
Preview and Confirm Settings, after that click Apply.
Before using storage on RAID Groups, we have to create Volume Group first. Now creating
RAID Group is ok.
Creating Volume Group
RAID Group 1 is that we created recently and file system is currently support Btrfs & ext4. Now
we are choosing ext4.
Creating Shared Folder
Click Control Panel > Shared Folder> then Create.
For Advanced, we can enable quota limit. Also User Permission like No access, Read/Write, Read
Only, Custom.
We can set password manually and also generate password from its built-in Password Generator.
After user created, it will ask you to select group for user. After that, shard folders will show up if
you want some users not to access some shared folders, you can set deny permission for that user
so the user will no longer access that folder.
