FG Wilson Technical Information Bulletin: 6th June 2012

This technical bulletin summarizes an issue with certain generator sets where the switch levers on circuit breakers may be restricted by the front cover plate. The solution is to replace the front cover plate and adjust the depth of the DIN rail mounting to ensure the levers have full movement. A parts list and 11-step procedure is provided to make these repairs.

SUBJECT: SBOX CEE Form Sockets

PROBLEM

On certain 26 –200 kVA generator sets fitted with the SBOX CEE form sockets option, the switch
levers (1) on the RCBO and MCBs may be prevented from moving to the tripped position due to
restriction by the front cover plates as seen in Image 1.1. This does not prevent the device from
tripping internally and does not affect the safety of the operator.

SOLUTION

Replace the front cover plate and adjust the depth of the DIN rail mounting, thereby ensuring that
the RCBO and MCB levers have full freedom of movement.

REQUIRED PARTS

KMU Serial Number Prefix

Part Number Description Qty Required

10000-59767 Front Cover Plate 1
500-702 M4 Screw 3
10000-14086 M4 Washer 3
690-002 Spacer 3

Part Number Description Qty Required

10000-59769 Front Cover Plate 1
500-702 M4 Screw 2
10000-14086 M4 Washer 2
690-002 Spacer 2

PROCEDURE

1. Ensure that the generator set has been safely isolated from starting before carrying
out any work.

2. Remove the front cover plate from the socket box by unscrewing the M6 bolts x 4 (1) (M6
bolt x 6 on the KMU prefix) securing the plate to the socket box as per Image 2.1. Retain the bolts
for later use.

3. Remove the MCB (1) covers from the front plate by unscrewing the bolts securing them (2)
as indicated in Image 3.1. Retain the bolts for later use.

Fit the MCB covers (1) to the new plate (2), and secure using the bolts (3) retained during removal
as per Image 3.2. Ensure that the fastening screws (4) on the cover are orientated as per Image
3.3.

5. Remove the rear canopy panel by removing the rubber grommets (1) indicated in Image 5.1,
and then loosen the Allen screws securing the panel to the canopy.

6. Remove the rear socket box closing plate (1) as illustrated in Image 6.1 by unscrewing the
bolts (2) securing it to the socket box. Retain the plate and bolts for refitting.

7. Loosen the screws holding the DIN Rail indicated in Image 7.1 but do not remove. The DIN
Rail mounts the RCBOs and MCBs. There are 3 DIN Rails on DMU, GMU, JMU and SJB prefixes,
and 3 on the KMU prefix.

8. Remove the bottom screw and gently pull the DIN rail back. Place one of plastic spacer
690-002 (1) between the DIN rail and the steel spacer as illustrated in Images 8.1 and 8.2. Fit one
of screw 500-702 and one of washer 10000-14086, finally tighten the screw. Repeat the process
for the other spacers as required.

9. Replace the rear socket box closing plate (1) as illustrated in Image 9.1 and secure by
screwing the bolts (2) retained during removal.

10. Locate the rear canopy panel (1) and secure to the canopy by tightening the 6 Allen screws
(2) indicated in Image 10.1. Once secure, replace the grommets retained during removal.
