CIGRE Study Committee D1 y

The document discusses CIGRE Study Committee D1, which focuses on materials test technologies and diagnostic tools for electric power systems. It outlines the committee's mission to facilitate information exchange on new materials, emerging technologies, and diagnostic techniques. It also provides the committee's strategic plan, which expands its scope to all materials for electrotechnology and electrical insulation systems. The plan identifies new areas of focus such as dielectric properties of insulating liquids, functional nanomaterials, and test techniques for UHV equipment and HTS power applications. Finally, the document lists recently published technical brochures produced by Study Committees D1 and D15 on various topics related to materials and testing.

SC D1 Mission and Scope
SC D1 Materials and Emerging Test Techniques, Mission and Scope

MISSION
• To facilitate and promote the progress of engineering and the international exchange of
information and knowledge in the field of materials test technologies and diagnostic tools for
electric power systems
• To improve the information and knowledge by synthesising state-of-the-art practices and
developing recommendations and to identify, investigates, monitor and report upon new or
novel materials, emerging technologies and diagnosis test techniques which have the
potential for application within electric power systems but where the precise nature of such
use is unclear or where technological obscures a clear route to implementation

SC D1 Mission and Scope (cont.)
MISSION (cont.)
• To make recommendations to relevant study committees for activity regarding new or novel
materials, emerging test technologies and diagnosis techniques and concepts which have
reached, or are about to reach, a level of maturity where experimental developments or
prototypes can be applied to electrical power systems or where a clear route to
implementation can be foreseen
• To investigate, monitor and report upon the use of new or novel materials, test technologies
and diagnosis

which can be commonly applied across several study committee areas
• To support other study committees in their analysis of recently introduced and developing
materials, tests techniques and concepts where relevant expertise exists within D1

4
SC D1 Mission and Scope (cont.)
SCOPE
The activities of CIGRE Study Committee D1 concern the following main
directions:
• new and existing materials for electrotechnology,
• emerging test technologies and diagnosis techniques,
• support of other study committees in their analysis of recently
introduced and developing materials, emerging test technologies and

SC D1 Mission and Scope (cont.)
SCOPE (Cont.)

Within this scope, the work of the Study Committee is principally scientific in
nature and has as its main aim the provision of timely information on new developments and
trends in the field of materials and emerging test technologies to other CIGRE Study
C itt
Committees.
Through its work the Study Committee strives to keep CIGRE fully aware of the
evolution of materials and emerging testing technologies relevant to its activities.
activities
Where the scope of SC D1 work overlaps that of other study committees, we will
strive for good communication and co co-operation,
operation, the co
co-ordination
ordination of all activities, and,
where appropriate, joint activities. Such interactions will extend to all study committees.

6
Strategic Plan of SC D1
Major changes to previous plan
