Campus journalism is a significant endeavor that allows students to gain experience writing for their school and community. It helps spark students' desire to serve the public through the skills they acquire. Campus newspapers and magazines report news, discuss issues, and keep students actively engaged in society and politics. They also help students become more aware, responsive, and proactive citizens at a young age. However, campus publications must take care to hear all sides of issues and create an environment conducive to learning by advancing quality of education. Reading campus media requires patience but provides substantial benefits like conveying messages, sharing insights, and improving journalism skills. Reflection: News Writing
Journalism is one of the most vital professions in any society, campus
journalism is one of the most significant endeavours in the country. It is where students gets a taste of what it is like to write for their school, their neighborhoods, their dreams and their hopes. It is, hopefully, what sparks that want to serve the public through these acquired skills. Journalists enable people to be aware of what happens around them, understand what these events mean, and make informed decisions. Campus journalism are all part of our school/college newspapers or magazines, be it in photos, published articles, essays, and more. However, there is more to it than just commissioning, writing and editing articles, it fosters a sense of liberalism, freedom of speech, the expression of societal issues. Typically, a campus newspaper or magazine functions exactly how the media is supposed to reporting the news, help determined which issues should be discussed, and keep people actively involved in society politics. Campus journalism helps student become more aware of what’s happening around them. They learn how to become responsive and proactive citizens at a young age. It will promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of strengthening ethical values, encouraging moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth. Today, the campus paper has become an avenue to expose anything against anyone. This brings problems with the editorial board’s security of responsibility, objectivity and fairness. Student writer may write about as is anything, what they have observed. Thus, hearing both sides of the issue. For instance, as student writers must not only publish an article about teachers who are enraged with students but must also look into the reasons why teachers are enraged, through interview with the teachers. Remember, the prime cause of a campus paper is to create a campus conductive for learning and to advance the quality of education. Reading the campus paper and publication staff requires more patience, time and understanding as what I had experienced in reading this topic makes myself evaluate that the campus papers is substantial for us in conveying messages and information to the other citizens. Aside from the fact that campus journalism gives student opportunity to practice their craft and share their thoughts and insights about certain issues. They can also meant to help students to improve their technical skills in journalism, understand and practice the responsibilities of a journalist, learn how to be responsible and promote social awareness. However, it is also a good venue for advocating educational development, as well as for voicing out students’ rights and promoting their welfare. The more I read about campus journalism, the more I experienced the facts about them. As a student or as a journalist’s citizen it reflects me that reading more articles, books and newspapers acquire more knowledge and ideas on how to elaborate and share effective communication for them to understand what was the certain topics all about. However, it is not easy in terms of articles that are controversial in nature often get heavy editing because it also look to expand their horizons beyond just the campus and discuss topics about the particular articles or newspapers that I read. Eventually, these learning that I evaluated is a great impact to my future for it is a weapon to stand my own self in order to share, write, read, apply and identifying these core skills for the urgent importance for the future of journalism and of vital interest to not only editor and educator but also to conveying fact news to the newspapers and articles even television. On the other hand, to ensure the people that they want to trained, it is necessary to have these skills to compete in an ever more-crowded of news and information to access ideas, perspectives and facts gathered ethically and with context, not just scattershot spray of information but the facts that they read on articles and newspapers for the future journalists. For todays and tomorrows journalists have the skills to create journalism that is both meaningful and economically successful.
