Argumentative Essay Lesson-Plan

This learning plan outlines a lesson to teach Grade 12 students how to identify assumptions, arguments, and evidence in texts. The lesson will begin with an introductory activity where students analyze the assumptions and arguments in a music video. The teacher will then define and explain assumptions, arguments, and evidence. Students will apply what they've learned by working in groups to create short argumentative essays identifying these elements. Their work will be assessed using a rubric to evaluate their identification of the argument, assumption, and evidence. For homework, students must make a caricature illustrating the argument of a topic they choose.
