Workshop 3

The document summarizes the theoretical framework, conceptual framework, and objectives for a student workshop project on the design of a three-story parking facility in Surigao City, Philippines. The project will use reinforced concrete design, structural analysis, and geotechnical engineering principles. It will also consider construction scheduling, cost estimating, and value engineering. The conceptual framework diagram shows that the project will involve gathering data, analyzing it, preliminary design, evaluating relevant codes, structural design, and producing a design for the parking facility. The objectives section lists both general and specific goals.

WORKSHOP 3

PROJECT TITLE

DESIGN OF THREE-STOREY PARKING FACILITY COMPLAINT TO GREEN CODE

AT SURIGAO CITY

PROJECT TEAM
Project Leader : Mary Ladyniel Apalisok
Co-Researchers : Clyde Sheen J. Requina
Justin L. Fernandez

Co-Author : Engr. Erlito Orit

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

Reinforced Concrete Design is a method in designing a structure in which the steel is embedded with
concrete to withstand tensile and shear stresses caused by wind, earthquakes, vibrations, and other
forces that acts on it.In this method, the tensile strength of steel and the compressive strength of
concrete work together to allow the member to sustain these stresses over considerable spans.
Structural Analysis is a comprehensive assessment to ensure that the deformations in a structure will be
adequately lower than the permissible limits, and failure of structural will not occur. The aim of
structural analysis is to design a structure that has the proper strength, rigidity, and safety. Structural
analysis assists in the design of structures that meet their functional requirements, are economical and
attractive.
Geotechnical engineering is the study of the behaviour of soils under the influence of loading forces
and soil-water interactions. This knowledge is applied to the design of foundations, retaining walls,
earth dams, clay liners, and geo synthetics for waste containment. The goals of geotechnical
engineers could range from the design of foundations and temporary excavation support, through
route selection for railways and highways, to the increasingly important areas of landfill disposal of
wastes and groundwater contamination.
Parking facility is generally defined as any building, structure, land, right-of-way, equipment or facility
used or useful in connection with the construction, enlargement, development, maintenance or
operation of any area or building for off-street parking of motor vehicles. Private facilities are subject to
the rules of the facility owner.
Construction Scheduling is the listing of activities, equipment resources, material and labor that includes
the estimated time of completion in the construction. It helps the researcher in organizing and
calculating the performance of work if the project study is implemented for construction.
Construction Estimate is an approximation or anticipated cost for specified scope of work, project or
operation that is the process of predicting the cost of a facility through quantitative analysis of the
work.It allows the researcher of the study to measure out the expected cost of the structure they are
studying.
Values Engineering is a systematic method to improve the value of goods, equipment, and services by
using the examination of function. This concept helps the researcher to improve the materials to be used
in the structure by economical means.
