Heat Transfer 2: Ourse Bjective Escription
Heat Transfer 2
This course is intended as a one semester course for undergraduate students on faculty of
Mechanical Engineering.
Heat transfer, Engineering thermodynamics and Fluid dynamics is a pre-requisite for this course.
You are expected to have (i) a basic knowledge scheme of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid
dynamics. (ii) basic knowledge of simulation theory and methods.
Topics to be covered include: forced convection in laminar and turbulent flows; natural convection
in internal and external configurations; heat transfer during condensation and boiling; evaporation.
Problems and examples will emphasize modelling of complex systems drawn from manufacturing,
electronics, consumer products, and energy systems.
Skills:
The course should enable the student to:
General competence:
The course should give the student:
- Basic competence related to other courses involving thermal energy systems and processes.
- Skills in analyzing and calculating heat transfer in complex problems and heat transfer equipment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to complete the following key tasks:
Cengel, Y. A. Heat Transfer: A Practical Approach. 2nd ed. Boston, MA: McGraw-Hill.
EVALUATION
Assignments: There will be weekly Offerable assignments designed both to consolidate the
technical material covered in class and to motivate topics still to be introduced. They will consist
of some research paper investigation, research and challenge for further discussion and
development to present at least conference paper. The assignments will be evaluated in the
subsequent lecture through oral presentations.
