After analyzing the data from three vaccine delivery concept evaluations, the team found that Concept 2 scored highest overall. Concept 2 proposed a vaccine patch made from cheap, biodegradable materials with packaging tailored for each component and instructional pictures on the patch. It scored highest in affordability and tied for easiest to mass produce and easiest to use. Concept 3, an oral vaccine delivered through nonprofit sponsorships with environmentally friendly manufacturing, scored highest for causing no pain. Both Concepts 2 and 1 tied for safest packaging.

We gave concept 2 the highest score for affordability because it would be specifically made with cheap materials. We will still need to do research to find the specific materials. After discussing with the team and averaging between our numbers, we gave Concept 2 a value of 7.5 out of 10 for affordability. Which concept is the most painless? We gave concept 3 the highest score for painless with a perfect 10. This is the most important factor to us and all three concepts have high scores, but Concept 3 is highest due to the oral ingestion of the vaccine causing zero pain while the other patches may cause discomfort. Which concept is the easiest to mass produce? After analyzing our data, we decided that there was a tie between concept 2 and concept 3 for which would be the easiest to mass produce. Both of their values ranked a 6 out of 10. Concept 2 would be easy to mass produce because it is a simple patch that could be broken down into parts to be separately mass produced. We knew concept 3 would be easy to mass produce because it is an oral vaccination in the form of a pill, and the mass production of pills such as Advil is already doable. Which concept has the safest packaging? Concept 1 and 2 tied in safest packaging with an 8 out of 10; Concept 1 has padded and cooling packaging to ensure safety of the vaccine while Concept 2 has fitted compartments to ensure no movement occurs while shipping. Both of these received an 8 on our scale because they create safety for the materials and are better than bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Which concept is the easiest to use? Concepts 2 and 3 were tied for easiest to use with values of 8.5 out of 10. The ability for the product to be easy to use is very important for this project because one of our main goals was to have this product available for use without a hospital or nurses to facilitate it. This would allow the vaccine to be used in other countries where certain vaccines are usually unable to be administered. Concept 2 would be easy to use because it would have clear and labeled picture instructions on the actual packaging. This makes instructions clear and followable, even if one cannot read. Concept 3 would be easy to use because while instructions would be contained in the packaging, the use would be the same as any other pill, and is pretty self explanatory. Which concept is the most environmentally friendly? Concept 2 is the most environmentally friendly product out of all of the options with a 7 out of 10. This is due to the biodegradable microneedles and the fitted packaging that produces less waste. 1 was a close second, and 3 fell short due to the wastefulness of packaging. None are a perfect 10, so hopefully we can use cheap materials that don’t damage the environment. Winner The highest score in our decision matrix was Concept 2; a vaccine patch with cheap materials, biodegradable microneedles, packaging that perfectly fits each component, and instructional pictures on the actual patch.
