authorship. You may use the tutorials and actions for your personal work and enjoyment, but
redistribution, transfer, and/or sale is prohibited. If a friend or colleague wants a copy, please honor my
efforts to create and share these tutorials and techniques by simply referring them to my website,
www.GoodLight.us, to obtain them, and not by freely giving away what has taken several years to
create. Thank you for respecting these copyrights.
Also, thank you for your interest in the Photoshop tutorials on my website and for providing support for
my efforts to share them with a wider audience. As photography continues to evolve, the creative
possibilities continue to improve. Post-processing images is one way for photographers to create a
unique style and to explore light beyond the camera. These tutorials and actions represent my way of
using Photoshop to process images. My goal is to have them seen as tools that can be adapted in many
different ways as opposed to a prescribed workflow for photo development. Each photographer will
decide what works best for their images, and will work out their own best solutions. I hope you will
explore these techniques and find them useful as your own style and talent continues to grow.
The tutorials are all in Adobe PDF format. This is a universal format that works on various platforms and
operating systems, so you likely have it installed on your computer. In case you don't, you can
download the reader free at http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/.
There are two different custom TKActions panels included in the download: one works in Photoshop CC
and one in Photoshop CS5/CS6. Both are located in the "TK-panel" file folder in the download. Be sure
to install the version of the panel that matches your Photoshop application. There is an "Instructions"
PDF in the "TK-panel" folder that will tell you how to install either of the panels. There are different
installation methods for the two versions of the panel, so also be sure to match the installation
procedure to your version of Photoshop. The Photoshop action sets, which make the techniques
described in the tutorials much easier to use and which are invoked from the buttons on the panel, are
contained inside the "Action-Sets-for-TKActions-Panel" folder inside the "TK-panel" folder. The same
action sets work with both versions of the panel. The “Loading and Playing Photoshop Actions” PDF tells
you how to load these action sets into Photoshop. Once the actions are loaded into Photoshop's regular
Actions panel and the TKActions panel is installed and opened in Photoshop, it is very easy to play and
experiment with the various actions that go with the tutorials.
For most photographers, the most popular tutorials concern the luminosity masks. If this is true for you,
then the first tutorial to read (and practice with) is:
After that, the next ones that would build on this first one are:
While the triple play is one of the more advanced methods of using luminosity masks, the triple play
actions are an easy way to adjust an image using luminosity masks. However, you'll want a basic
understanding of the Luminosity Masks and Luminosity Painting tutorials to understand how to use the
triple play actions.
Saturation Masking and Saturation Painting work together too, with Saturation Masking being the one
to read first. As noted in the early part of the Saturation Masking tutorial, the actions in the "TK-Sat-Vib-
masks" action set are the actions I now prefer for creating the Saturation and Vibrance masks. These
actions use a Selective Color adjustment to create the masks instead of the HSB/HSL filter described in
the tutorial. The HSB/HSL filter is cumbersome to download and install and doesn't accurately capture
the saturation of darker tones. As such, the "TK-Sat-Vib-masks" actions are better for making Saturation
and Vibrance masks. This action set is contained in the "Action-Sets-for-TK-ACTIONS-Panel" folder along
with the other actions sets.
The other tutorials are mostly on just one topic, so you can do them in whatever order works best for
you.
I'm always available to try and help if you have trouble with the downloads or the tutorials and actions.
