Anticipatory Set
Tell the students that today they will be receiving their last sight word for this week's
list. We will be using our sight word powerpoint to help us learn today's word,and also
remind the students how important our sight words are. Have a discussion indicating
that sight words are commonly used words that are important for students to memorize
by sight. Please Explain that they will encounter sight words as they are reading all
types of books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
Write students participation and overall assessment on how they do on the chart paper.
Class Goal:

Independent Practice
At the end of the powerpoint students will use their magnetic board and
alphabet to find the letters that spell “Red”. The sight word (last slide) will
be left on the screen for students to use as a guide. Once the students
have found all three letters, they will need to attach the letters to their
magnetic board. Next students will raise their hand indicating completion.
The students board will be checked for the correct spelling. Lastly, students
will be asked to sound their sight word out to me,and then state what the
word says.

During the last 30 min of class discuss the day’s sight word. Talk about the
definition of “Red” and have the students point out objects within the class
classroom that represent the sight word. In addition,before dismissal.Have the
students line up at the door packed and ready to go.Before each student leaves
they must individually and verbally tell you the new sight word they learned
for the day. Make sure the students are a few feet away from each other so
they don't hear each other. If there are any students having difficulty with this
task please document the students name with a brief description.
Special needs accommodations
● Allow more time with the magnetic words and board so the student can
feel the words and read them at the same time.
● Start with a small number of sight words and focus on them for a week.
● Frequent check-ins for understanding,
