Tell me about a time when you have been faced with a challenge where the best way forward or strategy
to adopt was not “clear cut” (i.e. there were a number of possible solutions). How did you decide the best
way forward?

SITUATION: I am going to talk about something that happened to me while I was doing my internship. At
the very beginning I had tasks that aimed to be familiar with the processes that were conducted at the
company in terms of see real numbers how the relationship with providers among other things was.
However, between the 3rd and 4th month my boss started to assign me some tasks that required to analyse
different factors in which I was given some information and I had to select the best possible option in
order to renew a contract with a supplier that has been working with the company for the last 5 years or
select a new one with 3 possible options of companies that may provide the service. The task was to
choose of the 4 options and explain the reasons. What I did was to do like a pro and cons list in order to
see what the difference in the service was that each of the companies are providing including units,
terms, costs. At the end what I did was to weight the options considering the budget assigned to select
the best one and the reason to explain the decision was that very same excel that contained the info for
each of the option with the respective percentages and at the end we did a renewal with the same
provider at the same price without any increase considering it was a contract for the next 3 years but also
we got some additional features that my boss managed to get when she explained to them that she was
getting the same from other competitors.

Give me an example of a time when something you tried to accomplish and failed.
Around 2 months ago I was applying to get a job in the central bank or the well-known … and it was like a
mix between a dream and to see what happens if I apply to this vacancy. The first filter was to send some
documents to review if your profile adapted to what they were looking for at the time. Then a knowledge
test focused in Economics followed by an English and some common knowledge tests, then I had an group
interview and then a interview with the group of people that I would be working with and I managed to
get to almost the final step in which there were 1050 applicants for only 1 job and I was on the group of
15 applicants. Even though I was not selected I can tell that it proved to me that despite the challenges I
have the potential to

Give me an example of when you showed initiative and took the lead.

After I graduated I got a job in which everything was new for me since I never studies the topic about the
functions I would be doing in my role as a transfer pricing analyst because it was a topic that was related
more to an accountant that an economist. However I started in February and after studying I understood
better the role however is a job that has a rough season in which you had to work until late like for around
2 months without considering holidays or a weekend. In that time we had a client that required to have a
job done in a day and there was no option to move it forward for a possible delay and when my boss asked
for someone to take the risk of doing that task and do it as perfect as it could be I said I wanted to do
since I did a report similar with another client.
My boss asked me if I was sure about it since it was very important that the report had the few mistakes
possible since he had to review it before send it to the customer, I did my best with the task I took the
responsibility for and the few mistakes that my boss corrected me were not substantial and we managed
to deliver the report to the customer and my boss was surprised since it was the first report I did on my
own and later on he confessed me he schedule some time to fix it because it was understandable that
could have many mistakes but actually was very good in the few time I had to learn to make those kind of
reports.
Give me an example of a time when you motivated others.
At the University I was part of a group of mentors (That´s how they called it), in which we had to identify
some issues that the students may have been struggling with, in order to assist them as a friend and also
helping them get professional assistance to handle the identified problems considering that the alert was
bad grades in some of the university courses.
There was a specific case that another mentor had (I met him at the mentoring group sessions) that he did
not know how to handle. The situation was related to a girl that was failing a course because she did not
go to some tests and quizzes. The reason behind the girl skipping some classes was because she found out
she was pregnant and on top of that her parents did not know.
The mentor role was to help people to understand the situation and direct them to the University's
professional group to help them, however he did not know how to talk to her because he was very shy and
did not know how to approach the situation so she could ask for help.
I told him to be with him when he suggests to take some advice from us so we could up a meeting to talk
to her and what I think she needed the most was someone to talk about and at the end she accepted the
assistance.
Tell me about a time when you delegated a project effectively.
When I was at the university I had a group of friends that I knew that we worked perfect since we knew
each other and also had the ability to identify the strengths of each person and were able to always fo a
very good job since we understood each other. However there was a class in which the teacher assigned
the groups according to his list and I was with 2 classmates that did not get along to well between them so
at that time there was one classmate that had very good grades and did not want to do her part since she
did not require a high grade to pass which was the opposite case of the other classmate. Even though they
were not happy working together I managed to talk with each person individually to assign the tasks and I
acted as an intermediary between them in terms of meetings that even though it was a group assignment I
was not willing to get a bad grade for a bad relationship between 2 people and we got a 100 since all of us
worked very well even though they did not like each other.
